Should lot warmups be closed to the public?

Parking lot warmups

  1. 1. Should DCI consider a closed warmup policy to encourage attendance for lower-ranked corps?

    • No; the lot is part of drum corps, and if I want to skip corps to see warmup, that's my choice.

    • Yes; it is a distraction to audiences and disrespectful to corps by allowing people to watch warmups and show up late.

    • Late arrival behavior will not change, open or closed warmups.

actually we didnt warm up anywhere near the stadium in allentown...we knew to go far away from the stadium because of how loud we were when we warmed up. We even walked past Phantom and SCV hornlines and probably were a good 150 yards further than they were and purposely faced away from the stadium (as all hornlines do) and we still got a call after Philip Bliss that we were able to be heard from the stands, so that happened to be one of two times this year we couldnt finish our full warmup routine with Rocky Point because we were heard from the stadium. This was one of the louder hornlines Gino put out in awhile, and we knew coming out of move-ins that warmups were going to be a challenge because of how loud we were this summer. I'm sorry, maybe the Cadets will tone the volume down next summer

Yeah, I remember my friend telling me that a couple of days after the show. I was impressed, because I knew how far away from the stadium you were.

And then there was that rainy day in Beverly. I was getting food from our truck right as you were playing through Philip Bliss and Rocky Point. All I have to say is F***, that was one hell of a horn line. Loudest I've heard in a long time.

"Just don't taser me, man!"

Ahem. It's bro, not man. If you're going to use frat boy vernacular, you have to use it correctly.

Don't taser me, bro!

Bro!

God, I laughed so hard at that clip.

I think that you'd end up with the exact opposite...

We agree. By asking the question, I was trying to establish what are the real priorities of those devoted to the lot. If the most elite corps performed first, they could have it all. Or maybe what they want is only the most elite corps?

Does that come as a surprise?

Not a surprise. Still a disappointment. It’s another symptom of a culture that increasingly expects that every consumer experience should and ought to be tailored to the specific requirements of individuals, not the group. It’s not good for drum corps.

From a marketing stand point, if ticket sales are really dropping, the two best things to do would be to either block off the whole parking lot and charge admission to the lot (not sure how this would work, but it's an idea) or sell a few more lot videos and set up souvenir booths in the lot instead of inside the events, so at least you are enticing people to spend some money.

Oooh...lot passes akin to pit passes for Nascar.

That could be an interesting source of additional revenue.
