.........looking ahead.

The Kilties completed a highly productive rehearsal and evaluation camp this past weekend.

The 2008 production was played for the membership (along with the visual concepts explained) and all sections were quite busy throughout the weekend with a highly well time managed format.

The Kilties plan on fielding 105 members for the 2008 season.

The corps will hold a percussion camp on January 5th and 6th, and full corps camp on January 26th and 27th.

For more information visit HERE!

Percussion Camp, January 5th & 6th.

The Kilties will hold a full percussion (battery and front ensemble) camp on January 5th and 6th.

The full teaching and creative staff will be in attendance, with plans to finalize positions for the 2008 Kiltie percussion section at this upcoming camp.

Anyone interested in applying for membership and attending this upcoming percussion camp, may do so by visiting The Kilties website located HERE.

****For those interested in applying for positions within the brass and/or color guard sections and would like to attend the January 5th and 6th weekend for independent orientation and evaluations may do so also; and are encouraged to apply by submitting your information at the corps' website above.

Limited positions may still be available, but the corps is closing quickly with numbers increasing daily. A few sections are already full at this point.

Anyone interested in applying for membership with The Kilties should do so in a very timely fashion as the corps plans on setting the final numbers at the end of January 2008.

The full corps will meet on January 26th and 27th.

Happy Holidays to All!

Just as an FYI, the music is not Praetorius, it's "in the style of" Michael Praetorius and actually comes from the Bob Margolis wind ensemble piece called Terpsichore. Crown played the 4th movement in their 1997 "Postcards from Britian".

Nobody should think this is Prætorius verbatim. It gets into arrangements based on snippets of other arrangements, etc. based on his work. The percussion feature is, in part, from a Michael Prætorius organ piece (and I'm sure Mr. Prætorius would be stunned by it!)

Prætorius wrote a HUGE amount of work, was one of the greatest collectors of other's works, and penned a very complete encyclopedia of music - some of his drawings of period instruments are the only record of those instruments.

According to Wikipedia:

"Terpsichore" is the title of a large collection of dance tunes collected by Michael Prætorius, some originating with Pierre-Francisque Caroubel.

I'm guessing Crown got the "Postcards from Britian" idea from the Cincinnati Wind Symphony album title, "Postcards", which includes the Bob Margolis "Terpsichore" work. But Prætorius was German, so I'm also going to guess that Crown's "Terpichore" postcard was lost by the Deutsche Post and somehow surfaced in Britian?

Scott Stewart did an impressive job of cut-n-pasting musical snippets in a sound editor to create the show concept. Equally impressive was his impressive ability to impress on us (impressively) the impressive visuals.

Kilties played through the second half of the first part at Kamp, and it sounded wonderful! As my wife gets the sheet music, MIDI and MP3 files to distribute to members, I have been amazed by the full score (brass and percussion) MIDIs of the show (thus far). These are fascinating and exciting arrangements, Misters Boerma, Kirby and Moore!

..........the time draws near.

In addition to the Percussion Camp itself, members from other sections have eagerly taken it upon themselves to arrange volunteer sectionals.

Instructional, evaluation, and administrative staff for all sections (color guard, brass and percussion) will be available throughout this time for those interested in applying for membership over the January 5th and 6th weekend.

For prospective applicants, applying online at The Kilties website is the recommended avenue to follow to get material to you beforehand.

Happy New Year to All!

WORD!

They are like nothing I have ever heard or played. Fascinating is a great word to describe these scores. So is challenging! I can't wait for our January 5th mellophone sectional.

January 26th-27th

The Kilties will gather in force on January 26th and 27th for full corps rehearsals. The entire brass book is in the hands of the horn line, and percussioin parts for the final movement of the show will be in the hands of the percussion section before the weekend. The goal is to have all 85 musicians play down the entire field show, our two parade tunes, and a concert piece on Sunday afternoon. The creative staff has put forth a super-human effort to deliver the charts, and the musicians in the corps have been working extremely hard at home to learn the music before this all important ensemble camp weekend. As of today it looks like we may have a brass opening or 2. We are also still actively recruiting guard members.

Those interested in applying for membership may do so by visiting the corps' website located HERE.

This is your last chance to join the 2008 Kilties. Final numbers will be set after this camp.
