I believe they will have to start in Open class now if they comeback in 2009......at least that is what Magic had to do because they were off for more then 1 year. :(

It's getting to look more and more like everyone makes Semis!!!

Looks like these are the former Div 1 inactive Corps for 2008 so far:

Capital Regiment

Southwind

Magic

Kiwanis

Esperanza

Pretty sad.

All of those except Southwind were inactive for 2007. There are still 21 active Div 1 corps and rumors of 2 more applying for Div 1 status.

Here is their press release. Who is on the Capital Regiment board?

Press Release – October 17, 2007

Capital Regiment to Remain Inactive for 2008

The Board of Trustees of the Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps met Tuesday evening, October 16, 2007, (the Board’s internal deadline to decide on the potential 2008 tour). After months of efforts and discussions, the board voted not to field a competitive drum and bugle corps for the 2008 Drum Corps International Summer Tour.

“I respect the decision of the Board to allow us to continue focusing on the long term stability of Capital Regiment,” stated Rick Bays, Capital Regiment Founder and Executive Director. “Of course it does sadden me as many former and prospective members, staff, and volunteers have been very enthusiastic about the potential for our return in 2008. Unfortunately, we are still not in a position to do so.”

Capital Regiment will continue to work diligently over the next year so that the corps can return to competition in 2009.

Greg Smith, Vice President and Treasurer of the Board reiterated “We have significantly improved the financial position of Capital Regiment over the past year. However, with the economic conditions in the Midwest along with the rising costs of supporting a touring drum and bugle corps, we are not quite financially ready to provide the best experience possible to our members.”

While Capital Regiment will not be a participating corps this summer, we will continue to sponsor Artistry in Motion as part of Drum Corps International’s 2008 Summer Tour.

Capital Regiment wishes everyone a safe and rewarding 2008 tour.

or is there anyone still active that was off for 2 consecutive years?

Magic was off in 2000 and 2001 (at least competitively but was still active as a mini corps).

I don't believe anyone else (to my limited knowledge) is still active after two consecutive years off...
