Creating the ultimate Corps Show directory!

Recommended Posts

So I'm kinda bored in the offseason, so one thing I like to do is got through my DVDs and watch a lot of shows. While doing this I try and find out everything I can about the shows as well as record my notes about them for future reference.

What I have found is that info on shows is very scattered throughout the web in literally dozens of locations if you can find it at all:

Who was the Corps director at that time?

Who wrote the Drill? Designed the Guard Uniforms?

Where was Spring Training held that year?

Did the music change throughout the year?

etc.

etc.

etc...

So it got me to thinking that what we really need is a place for all of this info on the web. Someplace where you can go when you want to find out who instructed the Baritones for the Cadets during the Summer of '06 (Chris Moss) or how did the Euphoniums in the '04 Cadets line carry their instruments at "Trail" (Like suitcases)...

Now, I marched these two years, so I know these things, but there is a million billion things that I dont know about drum corps...however, this is where you come in. Everyone knows a lot about different shows and corps and it is time to share that knowledge so that 3 years from now, if someone wants to look up who made the uniforms for the Bluecoats in 2000, they can simply access this site and find out.

I've started a couple pages on the drum corps wiki for the shows I know well. I would encourage everyone to start some pages of their own and put their knowledge out there for others to see.

Here is a template to get started, just create a new page and copy over the wiki-code to start.

More details can be found on the project page

Here are two pages I have started, however they are in no way even close to being complete.

Living with the past - Cadets 2004

Vol. 2: Through the Looking Glass

Let me know what you think,

-Joe Dacey

you might be better off hookin up with the guy at corpsreps.com

since that's THE place to go to find placements and such from the past.

I like the idea, could be a little time consuming though, although, there's already some corps' that have their past staff listings on their current websites.

yeah I'm exploring that option as well with corpsreps

however, the idea behind the wiki is that there is no way one person can compile and use all of the knowledge out there, thats why the wiki form is so great because anyone can post up any little piece of info they might have.

Yeah it can be time consuming, but again, if lots of people contribute a little knowledge, it can have a big impact. There is a lot of stuff up on different corps websites, however it can be difficult to navigate around to find it (believe me, I've tried). In addition, things like staff and such can be linked together through the wiki so you can, say, click on the person's name and see a short bio as well as look at other corps and shows they have been involved with.

I have actually thought about something like this before but what I’d really like to see is a fuller show description.

Where you point out musical and drill highlights and explain the forms and different layers of the show –a sort of in depth analysis, a guide /review to the show

thats also a really awesome idea...

..if anyone wants to put that on the show wiki, go ahead...the more the merrier

question..should show names in the wiki be put in quotes? i.e. "Living With the Past" verses Living With the Past?

I only ask because it changes the title and link of the page

I guess it doesnt matter either way, but we should try and make it standard one way or the other...

thoughts??

"This is the first year the Cadets marched with Euphoniums following the switch to B-flat instruments in 2000. They marched 6 of them and carried them like suitcases when at a trail."

I don't know why, but I found this funny. And I know one of the guys that marched euph that summer. He might find the "suitcase" description amusing.

they always carried them like suitcases (or miniature contras) when the corps was still on bugles, too.
