2008 DCI predictions.

Recommended Posts

My prediction is that despite an entire change of judging panels from Semi's to Finals at DCI Championships ( and level of performances no doubt ), that A) whatever Corps finish in 2nd and 3rd in the DCI Semi's will not win the DCI Championship outright and B) whatever Corps that finishes in 1st in the Semi's will either share or win outright the DCI Championship on Finals Night.

That's really hanging it out there with a prediction......

When's the last time a corps that didn't finish first in semis won the championship? 1974?

1. Cavaliers- Its an even year in the 2000's. Got to go with them.

2. Cadets- Come close, yet again.

3. BD- Dominate early season. Get knocked off at Allentown.

4. SCV- Continue to get better. Still issues with show design.

5. Crown- I think I can, I think I can.....

6. Phantom Regiment- Clean drums. Rest of the corps leaves much to be desired for everybody but the hard-core phans.

7. Bluecoats- The next corps to win in 2006 plateaus. Maybe falls off a bit.

8. Boston Crusaders- Doing what they do best. Finishing 7th-9th.

9. The Academy- this may be a bold prediction, but they've definatly got what it takes.

10. Colts- End up here after a season-long battle with Academy.

11. Blue Knights- Same old BK. Boring. Mediocre.

12. Glassmen- Clings to 12th place. Barely hold off Blue Stars.

13. Blue Stars- Another year. Another missed finals for Blue Stars. Just not living up to the hype.

14. Crossmen- Many solid steps in the right direction.

15. Madison Scouts- Tons of overhype. Madison settles into their new role; a middle of the road semifinalist corps.

16. Spirit- have fallen far.

17. Pacific Crest- Has there ever been a more non-descript corps in DCI? I can't even remember what their unis look like.

18. Troopers- Reality sets in. We're the same corps now that we were 3 years ago.

19. Pioneer- Just so Pioneer.

20. Mandarins- The Mandarins participate in the 2008 drum corps season. Nobody but them seems to notice.

Here's to tomorrow night! :lookaround:

I dare you to watch the Troopers 2005 show at Quarter Finals and compare it to what they will perform tonight. As a former Drum Major of the corps from 2003 to 2004 I can tell you without a doubt that this is the Troopers that people have been waiting for. I hope that reality sets in for you once you have seen them. Now with that said, there are still a lot of things that need to improve, mostly in the Color Guard category. If the Troopers had a full Guard this year I would say they had a chance to make a run at Finals. Since they don't, I would say that they stand a chance at 16th. I would be surprised to see the hornline sit outside of Top 12 though. They are insane! They've also had the entire show on the field for the last two weeks. They are way ahead of the game!

p.s. If you want to see how the Troopers have changed from three years ago buy the documentary, "America's Core" at the souvie wagon this summer.

Okay. Only going with Elite 8 here, and I'm going with hopes on this one, as you will all obviously see:

1) Boston Crusaders

2) Bloo

3) Crown

4) BD

5) Cavies

6) Cadets

7) SCV

8) X-men

Seriously.............?

Don't let it bug you. You could take last year's final standings as a prediction and come close - that's how little things change. The only problem with your brass predicition is that, given the rumored "slotting" that occurs, you pretty much finish with a pretty close placement - so if you're 16th overall, you're probably not going to be 12th in brass, whether you should be or not. IMHO of course. But, just this morning on youtube I was watching the 1974 DCI Midwest Troopers performance - old school classic!

You're right HockeyDad, it's a pretty safe bet.

Wish my prediction was way off though, and we had a shakup at the top from Semi's to Final's one of these years.

Gawd knows, we're long overdue for a shocker on Final's Night for the top spot.

If there's a obvious issue that is only visual (Guard), then the opposite captions might not be slotted as much.

Like I've said elsewhere, it's easier to fix guard numbers during the season than other sections. We'll see if they can recruit. I just want Semis and I'll be happy.
