Should we discuss the violence in PR's show again

Recommended Posts

By the way, did phantom have the color guard leg spread in front of the hornline still in the show? Haven't seen it in any of the broadcasts recently. It was in the show during the ca tour. If they took it out, they were smart, because of the legal liability. Violence is not illegal in a show, but child porn certainly is. Yes, I know, they weren't naked and there was no actual sexual act. But the supreme court has said that underage women don't have to be naked for it to classified as child porn, just need sexually suggestive poses by the underage performer, even with clothes on. DCI needs to be very careful regarding this. People have actually been going to prison for this. Just ask Ron Francis of girls gone wild. He just spent about a year in jail for this. There could be legal liability because of every girl under 18 who does that pose in the show. Which could mean legal liability for just about everyone involved, including top DCI management, the corps management, the designer who put the move in the show, the instructors who taught it, the video people who broadcast it, the video people who put it on the dvd's, the dci people who sold the dvd's, even the people who bought the dvd's and have possession of it in their homes. I'm not giving an opinion as to whether this is right or wrong, but do you see the mess this could cause? Be careful DCI. I know a lot of people are going to say that this is over reacting. But, the federal laws regarding child porn have changed (drastically tougher) in the last five years. People have been doing years in prison for this. For real. Have you read the stories like people convicted to 5 years in prison for having a few child porn images on their home PC's, that a computer technician found while doing a repair? Does DCI want to take this chance?

I think you are over reacting.

Not over reacting, just stating some facts that a lot of people aren't familiar with. I didn't give my opinion one way or the other about the actual move. If what I said is ignored, that's fine. It's up to them. If the move was in the show, then they will be the ones that will have to deal with the consequences. If they took it out, then no problem.

Back to my original question: was the leg spread move still in the show or did they take it out? I haven't noticed it for a number of weeks, but the fan network wasn't great earlier in the year on catching every visual move. Can someone who was in Bloomington confirm either way?

I was in Bloomington. I saw no "leg spread move." So you can rest easy. But my nine year old loved the killing. Strange - he knew it wasn't real.........must be a future MENSA member. I thought, after reading DCP, I might have to hide him under the bed (metaphorically - they checked bags and probably wouldn't have let me bring a bed into the stadium) during their show. He thought the "slave show" should have won. Guess he was right. Of course, he also said, concerning the Cadets, that "the talking wrecked the whole thing." So precocious - he hasn't learned that he hurts the kids' feelings when he voices an opinion like that.

And 27Socal strikes again. What? No comments on how this show still won with all that "violence"?

I have always said that it was an excellent show and corps without all the violence. They didn't need it. Congrats to Phantom on pulling it out.

This was never about Phantom specifically. It's really about the direction that the entire activity will be headed, since a lot of corps tend to follow what show style won the year before. Will next years show attendance drop because of violence and narration? Time will tell.

Ok, thanks for the info. Looks like they smartened up and took it out. Good to hear. Something to think about for future show designers.

Whoever has a problem with phantom's show is either a baby or a BD fan... Im sorry but they did the show justice with that much violence and it was awesome... I mean for christ sake it was about SPARTACUS not a 4 year old...

GO Phantom

No, actually, I'm a tremendous BD fan ... and I ####### loved Regiment beyond the telling of it.

27SoCal is a troll, and just looking to create discord where there is none. Don't give him/her the option.

As for Regiment's approach, the total commitment to theatricality, along with their traditional drum corps bring is what made this show what it was. This was obviously evident to the Spirit of Disney folks ... If Spartacus got a thumbs up from the company representing traditional family entertainment, I'll give that a lot more credence than the misguided opinions of a poster whose credibility, as well as first-hand experience of Regiment's show (was he/she there in Bloomington this week) is extremely dubious.

Don't start this crap and make the off season a cest pool of nonsense here. There is no bigger BD fan than I and I cried tears of joy and screamed at the top of my lungs for Phantom Regiment all year and especially on finals night. I know plenty o f thers that cried and cheered for them and couldnt be happier. Keep your shallow nonsense to yourself.

No, not looking to create discord. Just asking a question and stating some facts, I never gave an opinion. I will defend your right to do so though. But, apparently you think that your opinion is the only valid one and no one else has a right to state a different one. Disney gave them the award based on what was in the show this week, not what was in the show weeks ago (and apparently has been taken out).
