Champions of the 00's

Recommended Posts

In my opinion, 2008 has been the best year top to bottom of the 00's. My question is this: where do you think the previous championship shows of this decade would place given the the strength of this year's top 12?

2000: Cavaliers/Cadets tie

2001: Cavaliers

2002: Cavaliers

2003: Blue Devils

2004: Cavaliers

2005: Cadets

2006: Cavaliers

2007: Blue Devils

Thoughts?

I thought 08 was the weakest year of any since the mid 90's, from top to bottom. I think they would rank in the following order.

1. Cavaliers 2000

2. Cavaliers 02

3. Cadets 05

4. Cadets 2000

5. Blue Devils 07

6. Cavaliers 06

7. Cavaliers 01

8. Blue Devils 03

9. Cavaliers 04

10. Phantom 08

Seroiusly... 08 the weakest year? That's not going to fly on DCP, nor should it.

And Cavaliers 2000 on the top? NOT a chance.

00 Cavaliers & Cadets would probably place somewhere 2nd - 4th. (Cadets 00 Finals show was dirty, and I doubt Cavaliers brass that year would get much love nowadays...though percussion is an entirely different story)

01 Cavaliers: ...meh...probably 3rd-4th, maybe even 5th.

02 Cavaliers: Challenge for the title.

03 Blue Devils: Challenge for the title.

04 Cavaliers: 2nd or 3rd

05 Cadets: Challenge for the title.

06 Cavaliers: Challenge for title, though I don't see it winning.

07 Blue Devils: Challenge for the title, though I don't see it winning.

I too agree 08 was stronger top to bottom than most other years.

I think this year was one of the strongest in terms of quality from top to bottom, especially the quality of the top 4. Although I think Phantom was great and deserved to win, they don't rank as high for me because I believe there were other champions that were cleaner (visually) and pushed the envelope more in different ways.

1. Cavaliers 2002

2. Cavaliers 2006

3. Cadets 2005

4. Cavaliers 2004

5. Cadets 2000

6. Blue Devils 2003

7. Phantom 2008

8. Cavaliers 2001

9. Cavaliers 2000

10. Blue Devils 2007

Regiment 2008 is first, partly because it's a special one for the corps; but mostly because it's a drum corps show done exactly the way I like it.

Close between Cadets 05, Cavaliers 2004 and Cavaliers 2000. Cadets 2005 and Cavaliers 2004 were extremely accessible, even to first time viewers; Cavaliers 2000 just has a certain "old school" feel to it that I like, moreso than the Cadets show that year.

BD 2007 is too uneven for me (first 5 minutes are amazing, though . . .if it was "first five minutes" of the 2000's, I'd have them first), and 2003 was a little too chop-n-bop. The three Cavaliers shows at the bottom: well, as you can tell, I'm not really too big on Richard Saucedo's original stuff.

My picks:

hard for me to choose between:

Cavies 95

Cavies 00

phantom 03

SCV 04

cadets 05 (f off.. i liked it.. before they went COMPLETELY ape$h*t w/ narration)

I'd say those are my top 5.

I had this discussion w/ a friend... you don't see cavies 06, or bd, or whatever b/c for me at least, my favorite shows can stick in my head for days. If theres no memorable quality to the music then I don't think it did its job. Thats not to say that there arent plenty of other amazing shows, but those are some of my tops.

edit: phantom 08 goes right up there as a total package. they pulled the crowd so amazingly, and had more GE than dang near any show ive watched to this day, but musically they have a lot of competition from yesteryear.

What he said. And don't try to say Cavaliers 2002 wouldn't win or be top 2... just don't.

We aren't talking about favorite shows, we're talking about design and execution.

3. Phantom Regiment 08 (most emotional but the two above were squeeky clean)

4. Blue Devils 03

5. Cavaliers 04

6. Blue Devils 07 (first half of the show higher, last half in 10th)

7. Cadets 00

8. Cavaliers 00

9. Cavaliers 06

10.Cavaliers 01 (how can this be last?)

1. 2000 Cadets- no contest

2. 2002 Cavaliers- close. so close

3. 2005 Cadets- great show.

4. 2006 Cavaliers- best GE ever

5. 2003 Blue Devils- one of the last shows that didn't need hokey GE to win

6. 2000 Cavaliers- I wish Cavies still played like this

7. 2004 Cavaliers- hip

8. 2007 Blue Devils- really wish I liked this show more

9. 2001 Cavies- snore

10. 2008 Phantom Regiment- I think history will prove this show to be massively overrated.
