ouooga
If a private, non-profit organization (not DCI) was put together to help those with the desire and the means to start a drum corps, who would you put into this organization? Not just the design side but the business side as well. A consulting firm specifically to point new corps in the right direction for success. I don't mean like 21st Century Drum & Bugle Corps Foundation, which helps with tangible things. This is purely a series of advisers putting together flow charts, reviewing business plans and basically saying "Great, we'll see you on the field" or "You should probably do X Y and Z before you start getting members." So, who in the drum corps world would you put on this Startup Corps Advisory Committee?
84BDsop
Charlie Groh and Bill Cook come to mind.

Jeff DeMello
Maybe another way to look at this is not to say "who do you know that would be on this committee", but maybe rephrase it to "What are the qualifications of the people that should be on this Committee" ... concentrate on getting the job descriptions correct and THEN find the right people to fill the job descriptions. Here's my off-the-cuff take: Numero-Uno: You need someone with "start-up business experience". Don't forget ... the biggest trap to new corps is they don't realize that they are NOT starting a drum corps, they are starting a business who's product is a drum corps. BIG difference! You need someone with organizational experience to advise on how to set up the proper bylaws, recruit a board of directors with BUSINESS experience who have a passion for drum corps (a BIG mistake is to get passionate drum corps people with no business experience). You need someone who can advise on how to properly set up proper accounting processes. Because if you don't do proper accounting, and do proper audits, there is NO chance of getting grant money. You need someone with marketing experience. You need someone with experience in soliciting donations. You need someone with technical experience ... to help advise on setting up web-sites, in-office networks and databases, etc.
