All,

We're looking for a new parade march here at Navy. Anyone have any suggestions?

In particular, marches that are fairly easy and have a drum corps "twist" or two. Not the same old, squared up marches...

Thanks!

Jeff

Are British Marches out of the question?

I've always like, "The Army of the Nile", march, (if it's well done).

It's cool if you've never heard it. Just change the name to the "Navy of the Potomac"!

Second part is video 4 etc., on the site.

Back in 78' our opener was "The Patriots March" but being a stupid drummer I can't for the life of me remember who wrote it. It even had a cool sop solo. I tried to google it and got a few hits but it wasn't the same song. This is driving me absolutely crazy. If I ever get to the bottom of this I will definately let you know.

Not exactly a march, but I always thought "Pomp and Circumstance" would be awesome parade music ... The piece builds to some high-powered fireworks at the end (that generally never get played at graduations) that are very cool.

The overture from the movie, "Khartoum", (1966) starring Charleton Heston as Major Gordon. Great theme. I can only remember the Philadelphia Police Athletic League Cadets playing it OTL in 1968-ish.

Check it out. I couldn't find a clip anywhere online, but I didn't look that hard, or rent the movie - it's a great story and movie.

El Capitain

If you're gonna bust out "El Crapitan" (sorry...El Cap was the name of one of my rival high schools!), I'll mention Joyce's 71st Regiment....has a nice chromatic descending run in the T-bones that would be a LOT easier on a bari!
