I'm counting my blessings and thanking my lucky stars. If they don't meet, then they can't create any damage.

this thread has rapidly decended into the perpetual...you kids get off my lawn.

I remember the endless threads of how Bb horns were going to be the end of drum corps. I'm sure the pre-RAMD discussions involving the third valve brought on the same sentiment.

Wow...no posting an honor guard anymore. How did we ever go on after that?

Right you are.

Nor did Singing and Dancing troupes.(Visual Dance Ensembles called Color Guard for some reason)

Nor did Props and Costumes.

Nor did Electronics.

Kill it.

BUT !

Inch By Inch.

Step By Step.

It is down the Slippery Slope.

Now when the Woodwinds get added. AND YES, they will be added one day.

It is Summer Super Band pretty much really. Band Corps or Brass Band Field Theater. What ever! Very High Quality I know. But, non the less. That is what it is.

If that is what you like. GOOD for YOU. Progress, Evolve, ENJOY.

OldStyle, you're right. But standing still and playing the same cards the same way every time, particularly in creative arts, doesn't ensure long-term success either, because there's always other new stuff coming up that other people may prefer to spend their entertainment dollars on. (See what's happened to the audience for prime time TV, and prime time radio before them, as an example.) If drum corps were still doing it the way you preferred, who knows?, it might have died out long ago, as radio programming did.

/for the record, probably checking out when the woodwinds arrive

That's all you can do. Fight for what you want, but if things evolve and leave you in the dust, move on, as other drum corps fans have done, and find something else you prefer.

Wow, radio programming died out? It was still there on my way into work this morning. That was sudden.

Why would they sponsor it after spending money on electronic equipment? now that would be wasting money!

The idea was to catch them before they spent the money. If the majority of DCI corps already bought synths before September 15, then your point would be valid.

You are all mising the macro economic picture here - If they DID spend the money on hotels, flights, cars and the buffet, they would be helping the econmy out of these tough times! (sometimes I crack myself up.....)

You forgot the socialist part and then the part where I need to get off your lawn.

compare the radio audience size today to that of the radio audience from 25 years ago and you can quickly draw the conclusion...radio...last gasp...going the way of newspapers...

The radio has been replaced in every new car with a personal listening device where radio is only one option among 5 others.

Funny, the other 4 are or can be commerical free.
