Cascades Mandarins Pioneer Capital Regiment Troopers Pacific Crest Academy Surf Of this group I think Troopers, PC, and Academy have the best chances at making it back into Semis or higher. PC and Troop were there last year and Academy and PC the year before that. The rest of the corps don't have nearly as good of a chance for the following reasons - Mandarins dont have the talent or the design staff to compete with the corps listed above. - Surf has a chance, but WC is a lot different ball game than OC. It will take some time to get into the groove there. - Cascades essentially have to start over from scratch - I would be shocked if DCI even let Capital back into WC. If they are let back in they will get slaughtered. - Pioneer does not have the staff nor the infrastructure to make any big leaps forward. TerriTroop
I honestly think we should toss in all of the semi's corps to do this right: Here they are, 13-20 from semi's and quarters, and the added corps that make 22 or 23: Crossmen Colts Spirit Troopers Pacific Crest The Academy Mandarins Pioneer Jersey Surf Cascades Capital Regiment My rankings based on nothing more than hunches (and hopes for a certain favorite corps): Troopers (come on, you know I can't help it - and I have my reasons other than just alum love) Crossmen (great promise, so we'll see if there's more movement here) Colts (really quiet right now, could surprise the heck out of everyone) Spirit (I think I'll love the music, but the visual is what holds them back for me) And the rest I just have hunches about and nothing more: The Academy Jersey Surf Pacific Crest Mandarins Pioneer Cascades Capital Regiment (if they come out WC)
audiodb
- Mandarins dont have the talent or the design staff to compete with the corps listed above. Don't know if you caught this, but Scott Johnson is arranging for Mandarins in '09. Granted, that's only one part of the design team, but he can probably deliver a product that can compete at this level. (/understatement)

RE: Surf, Funny how a common thought is that WC is so much different than OC. Drum corps is drum corps. They'll have a few more members (hopefully) and the compettition will be stiffer, but other than that what is the real difference? Bigger tour? Different politics? Shows you follow Open Class... what is Surf going to march 170 this season? They marched 150 or JUST shy of it last season by 1 or 2.
