jwillis35
Most difficult brass book that I have heard goes to: Cadets 1997, Star 1993, and Cadets 1993 Honestly, I can't pick any one of them, so they all tie. They were all hard in different ways. Cadets 97 had lots of notes, Star 1993 had transparency and rhythmic challenges, and Cadets 1993 was just sheer speed and power (although not as clean on Finals night). Most difficult percussion book is tough for me. Not a percussionist, and I can think of some great battery and pit writing, but sometimes the two don't match up. I would think that lines in the 70s and 80s would stand the test of time in this case due to the fact that lines moved less than they do today, but they often played more, and more often (no sitting out on ballads and other special effects). I know that the Oakland Crusaders (late 70s), the Bridgemen from 78 - 82, the Blue Devils with Tom Float (especially 1986), and SCV with Ralph Hardin in the 1980s would all be some of the best ever. Lots of notes and tough demand. SCV 1985 still stands out as both physically demanding and very musical, as does 2004 SCV, and the Cadets 1993 book (although not as clean on finals night) is just a wicked-hard piece of scoring for percussion. The Cadets bass drum line in 1993 is unreal. Cavaliers 1995 are great, Cadets 2005, and BD 1999.

whitedawn
Oh DCP... just BREATHE DAH and everything will be ok. your show was great, but it wasn't remarkably difficult, despite what the staff told you. i love those guys to death (seriously), but they are AWESOME at getting members to buy into things that simply aren't objectively true. you'll hear the cd after you've been out of the system for a couple of years and understand what i'm saying. :)

BDsop86
The Don Ellis show takes it in my view 93 Devs is my pick, when you listen to '08 devils they have some pretty tricky runs in there and if you watch clinic videos fingerings are awkwards for a lot of those trumpet triplet parts. deltabass
Bflat: Crown 08 BY FAR. The musicality, the pure difficulty of runs and ranges and sustains. Amazing I thought one of the main driving factors of the concept was that all the things you were doing had been done before by other corps, hence several visual quotes and whatnot. Sadly, most of the segments were much too brief to be considered "amazing" in comparison with their predecessors with similar content. Example? Hungarian Rhapsody 2 first debuted as a short contra feature in VK 92, and it was nice and clean.
