Regarding SoCal Dream

Recommended Posts

We would like to thank those whom have posted support for us in other threads. We are also sorry that our fans out on the east coast will not see us at DCA Championships this year.

There was question about why no announcement from us and what is going on out here on the west coast. I hope the following news release will answer those questions.

For Immediate release; June 4, 2009

SoCal Dream to stay in California for 2009

After what was a smaller than usual winter rehearsal season, the board of SoCal Dream took a look at our past DCA accomplishments, and a realistic look at this season’s possibilities and had a tough decision to make.

With lower than expected membership, income to the corps is also lower. With that in mind, the board made a choice to ensure the future of SoCal Dream drum & bugle corps and decided it was not prudent, nor fiscally responsible, to make the trip to Rochester for DCA Championships this year.

In years past, we received large donations from individuals that are simply not able to contribute this year. The trip to Rochester more than doubles the financial commitment of each member, and without additional contributions available, the members would have to raise/pay even more.

Once the decision was made, we were able to lower our membership fees and suddenly more people are able to march with us. With our membership filling, we thought perhaps championships could be added back to the schedule, but it was only with the lower cost of a local season that many of our members are able to march.

It is with all of this in mind that SoCal Dream will be performing only at California DCi shows this year. We will also focus our resources, and strengthen our future, by performing in local community based parades and events, holding additional fundraising events, and performing at football games for the community college that has opened their campus for us to use as a rehearsal site.

We will miss being on the field in Rochester with the rest of the DCA corps this year, but will return in the future. Though our full corps will not be travelling, SoCal Dream is still planning on being represented in Rochester at the Friday evening I & E and Mini Corps competitions.

We wish everyone a fantastic 2009 season and look forward to our return to DCA Championships in the future.

I know exactly where your coming from Mike. We were there last year with Sun Devils.

Sound decision. The group that comes to Championships will still have a great time with all the other activities going on over the weekend. See ya there.

Sad to see it....but in the long run, the right call...better the corps survive than go DCA-uber alles and die

Agreed.... a good decision by SoCal Dream.

Wow, really sad news. I personally was looking forward to your santana music. Hopefully you at least do one of his songs next year. Good decision, my corps made that decision last year. Anyway still will check you out at the mini corps show. Is your mini corps playing carlos santana?

I feel for you guys, this sounds like the same thing we decided 3 weeks ago. Maybe another jam session on Sunday is in order for us, just minicorps style this year!
