  1. Michigan City, IN-July 6th Open Class Championships Cinema for Prelims Finals Of course, this is all contingent on the availability of babysitters and room in the family budget.
  2. Ooo...fancy smancy! Hopefully I'll make it down for the show this year. I'll be the one standing under an a/c vent.
  3. I'm sure most people in the area would rather see the show live...but there is a certain appeal to being in an air-conditioned building rather than out in the heat.
  4. I wish Pioneer was coming to Michigan City again this year. I enjoy seeing the corps in both the parade and on the field. Best wishes for your 2013 season!
  5. Best of luck to Dream on the Cal circuit this summer!
  6. It sounds like you're already off to a great start! I'm really looking forward to hearing all about Pioneer's 2009 season. I'll be cheering ya' on from Montana! P.S. Happy Birthday West!
  7. Does anyone know if SCV is in Denver (Elizabeth) already? I wanted to head over there this evening and watch them rehearse if they are...
  8. I've been doing really well! Thanks! Hope you are too!
  9. I was sitting in the gallery part of the gym this morning drinking coffee and reading (I do actually work out as well I just wasn't at that exact moment) and I could barely hear it but could tell that "Lonely Shepherd" was playing somewhere. I jumped up and started looking around and then saw the news was showing Zamfir playing for some group of foreign leaders. It made me think of '05.
  10. I'm going to the Rocky Mtn Percussion Assoc (actually...I'm not 100% sure what RMPA stands for) next weekend. I'll approach the most impressive individuals (ones that look like they haven't turned 22 yet) and tell them about this awesome corps out of Milwaukee that I know about.
  11. Lol, did you see my post on myspace or on the Pioneer thread here on DCP? Yep, I'll be on cook staff. One of the Pioneer brass techs recruited me. He said last summer during portions of the tour furthest away from Milwaukee they'd only have a few volunteers cooking, etc. I'm rarely capable of compassion but that tugged on my heartstrings. Please fly Cari into Omaha to serve with me. The brass tech's only restriction on who could volunteer for Pioneer cook staff was...well, I'll send you a PM with that info...
  12. I wish I could afford the commute to Dream rehearsals
  13. I managed to get out a "No! Nonono, no, no, no" before the page loaded and I saw it was an April Fools joke. Shame on you for scaring us like that! Some of us are old and have bad hearts...
  14. I love Wyoming! I really only know Laramie well, but I drove the stretch of I-80 between the Utah border and Cheyenne and liked what I saw (a whole lot of nothing). I may move north into it once I finish my schoolin'. Here's a link I googled; Rock Springs and Pine Bluffs are the only 2 cities/towns that ring a bell: http://www.wsba-wy.org/teach.html
  15. I know this is about recruiting brass and colorguard, so I'm going a bit off topic...but I'm gonna post anyway! I bought plane tickets today to fly into Omaha and then out of San Antonio, meeting up with Pioneer to join their cook staff for a week. I have been so excited that I've talked about little else... I know traveling with Pioneer will be the highlight of my summer!
  16. Payoff my mortgage. Quit my job and go back to school full-time. Bribe my mother into retiring. Donate money to High Country Brass and SoCal Dream. And actually be able to afford to march as well. Buy condos in Steamboat, Orange County, Chicago, and Fresno (yeah, I know how lame that sounds but I travel there a lot). Season tickets to Chicago Bears and Fresno State Bulldog games (and the plane tickets required). Yeah, I can think of a few uses for lottery money.
  17. Drums Along the Rockies tickets Crossmen t-shirt Troopers t-shirt
  18. Pioneer made the trip from Tempe to San Diego and was never given housing <**> It was kind of Phantom Regiment to allow the corps to shower at their facility. Pioneer did manage to scrounge up a practice field but I didn't get any details on whether it was at a school or in a Walmart parking lot. Another big <**> to whomever was responsible.
  19. BD June 16th score 75.9 BD July 29th score 92.25 16.35 point improvement Pioneer June 16th score 53.75 Pioneer July 29th score 71.0 17.25 point improvement Placement isn't everything. I think the Pioneer staff and performers are doing a great job and am so happy that they're out there participating in an activity that we all love!
  20. I'm hoping that they would just delay, not cancel the show. Weird Colorado weather. Sunny...then storms for 5 minutes...then sunny for 2 hours...then storms for 5 minutes...
  21. I am so excited for this weekend's rehearsal (I didn't know you were having full corps rehearsals; last time I checked it was still "brass only") I posted this comment on the HCB yahoo group some time ago but I am thrilled to get the chance to hang w/other drum corps members: People who when I say, "I march drum corps," don't respond, "You play drums? That's cool."
  22. When I was a cheerleader (during the dark ages) we had shirts that said "Play Hard or Go Home!" We should have shirts that say, "Play Loud or Go Home!" ...or not.
  23. Confidence is what makes a guard diva and cohesiveness makes an amazing guard. Some of the top division 1 colorguards have members that have had breaks in their show. But because they have confidence they don't dwell on one mistake (no matter how big the break or their field position at the time) and instead focus more so that the same thing won't happen at the next show. If you say something to this girl and show no compassion for her situation whatsoever, you will only being taking down her confidence in herself (something that is vital in a great performer) but also her confidence in the guard that she is a part of. And if one member doesn't feel confident in her guard then the cohesiveness is not there and the guard will never perform as a team. Instead you will have a few perfect divas, some middle of the road performers and members who mess up EVERY show (yes every show) due to lack of confidence (because the worse you feel about yourself the worse you perform). When she steps out on that field she needs to feel like she belongs there and that she is a member of a team and then she will give the best performance. And it's the job of members of the guard she is a part of to make sure she feels this way. It's not your job to make her feel horrible for a mistake she's made in the past.
