Holly, We do a board of scratch off tickets (50 or so)raffling them off. We do well each year with it. I'm actually surprised that others did not have any luck with it...

New DCA Corps in the Washington DC Metro Region
Xsnaredrummer replied to bryan2449's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Sean, I applaud you for honesty here. I joined my corps in 07 and slowly I have started to learn from and with other members of my corps on what it takes to bring a corps to the field year after year. I KNOW I don't even understand half of what it takes yet, and honestly I've looked at my director and told her "I don't want your job". Sadly way to FEW people understand the difficulties, and even fewer have the B**** to grow an organization. Rather than just take their "brick" somewhere else, that honestly wont need you, march somewhere that you will matter FAR more. I have multiple times socialized with Shen. sound's members and they are always a class act. One day maybe I will be able to learn the names of the kind people I have talked to on and off for years now! My kindest words to the OP and of course the people at Shen. Sound. Your drum corps brother and friend at X, -
August 6th should be a good week-end

Excelsior* (spelling) Can't wait to play this show for Kingston on the 6th! -
I understand that, I meant why do so many corps have penalties at the first show? Were a lot of corps undertime?
-
So why do a bunch of the corps have the read "(.2)" or even "(2.2)"?
-
Thanks for the kind words Donny, we are really looking forward to this season. I am looking forward to seeing you guys at mini-corps!
-
Sadly the enfield parade was rough for us this year, many of our members had school commitments. Just wait till you hear the full show!! Glad you enjoyed our selection, this is my favorite show I have played yet.

18 Corps in Class A at Dca and counting
Xsnaredrummer replied to Florida Sun's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Glad to see yet another class A corps join the pack! As for silence it seems to go one of two ways, either negative (inactive etc.) or they come out and do well. I'll see you on the 50, -

I can see a lot of people on here view going into class A as understandable decision for a struggling open class corps. I know I agree, but I have heard of many people who refuse to march an A class corps. If their corps goes class A they have made it very public that they will leave for another open class corps. I mean I understand the desire to march in a 60 man hornline, or with 10 snares but I was surprised at hearing this from multiple open class corps. I guess my question here is has anyone else heard/seen this in the open class ranks? Does this effect an already struggling corps' decision to stay in open class because they know some/a lot of their members will only march open class? -

Tampa bay said they are going open class from what I have read. Arkansas thunder I heard a lot from a few months ago. Chops is not coming to finals. I thought I read Music City Legend was remaining in open class (might need a correction here). I also seem to remember SoCal Dream was not coming to finals either. Also Honestly I have heard nothing of Derby City Knights. I do not speak for any corps so please don't take what I remember to heart. If I am incorrect about any of these corps I hope someone will correct me promptly. -
Hhhhmmmm ... I say YES, on the off chance they get greese on their hands... haha
-
... Does a corps member have to be alive? haha I say start a drum corps with just the robots. Start up costs will be painful, but uniformity will be easy! haha

Chops, Inc. Returning To DCA In 2011
Xsnaredrummer replied to DCP NewsFeed's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Wow guys way to be (fill in choice words here). I for one congratulate Chops on what they have accomplished, and we have another open class corps in the mix! Sounds like you guys have had a good 2 years away from DCA. I will see you on the 50, -
I would show up in the street and play if they don't let you compete. If your true goal is to entertain the crowd do so outside, or better yet see if you can open up mini-corps/play an intermission or something. Just my 2 cents, no need to get angry (to anyone out there easily offended).

What if DCI had different leagues...
Xsnaredrummer replied to Hrothgar15's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Drumlines are almost always non-music majors. Unlike brass instruments (at least from my angle I am a drummer) our college education is often focused on mallet percussion. This is a large difference from the life in the battery. (just my 2 cents) -

need advice picking a corps!
Xsnaredrummer replied to snarelife11's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
DCA also has wonderful corps that often educate kids wanting to go to upper world class DCI. My only advice for you is this: if you want to march, march no matter what, if that means going to bottom of open class, or marching a DCA corps DO IT. NOT marching a summer somewhere is one of the most detrimental things kids do who want to march upper world class. Just because you get cut doesnt mean thats the end. Also just because a corps is smaller doesnt mean it isnt just as fun if not more... ask around many vets will agree their time in a smaller corps was just as memorable if not more so then their larger corps. -
Minnesota Brass Mini-feature on the local news

HA if they think thats bad... they've never seen a boxer run through! -
Thanks, we have been working hard and the kids are eating it up. It is inspiring to see kids in their first competitive season turn a show into a living breathing thing. The thing we drum corps people have learned to love over the years.
