Hulka
i dunno, i've never really had much of a problem with "sagging" or uneven drums on either of the may systems (yamaha/pearl)if you do a little maintenance every few weeks and tighten up the bolts, or use locktite on the nuts and bolts, there's not problem at all Most corps I've seen using the May system experience sagging on drums 3 and 4. Perhaps preventative maintenance is not being done.
XxDrumCorpsFanxX
You pretty much just have to make sure you stay on top of making sure everything stays tight, otherwise the drooping occurs. But I think Pearl is trying to step away from RM and come out with their own line of carriers. They actually look somewhat comfortable and lightweight. But I didn't get that great of a look at them. Next time I see them I'll try to get some pictures.
parkbench
As drumline jack-of-all-trades booster helper dad for son's HS line, we've been battling new Pearl equipment for 2 years; particularly the quadz. Just received replacement mounting hardware (again) to try and remedy excessively sagging drums too point of almost inability for kids to march without tearing their knees. Just rebuilt two sets this week in prep for summer band camp! And unresolved issue is predrilled mounts for spocks -- note in pic that rims are barely touching bracket essentially negating cranking heads. This system is also problematic with the Pearl stands; there are only mm's of space between spock lugs and slot for stand bracket mount. Further note the set-screw which basically provides the lift -- the ends of these screws eat into the pivoting bracket plate edge (aluminum); and these screws need to be positioned to point that they're overflexing (angling?) attempt to get the drums horizontal level but this puts undo strain on the RM carriers as well as the kids backs. An easy fix for the spock problem is to cut the metal rim off an old head, and put it over the new head. this will raise the rim and still allow tuning. Its a trick many corps use. jonnyboy
Good tip! It is called "double hooping". Make sure the hoop you use as a spacer is metal all the way round, not an epoxy filled U-channel hoop.
Hybrid_Johnny
From what I have heard, Pearl is no longer affiliated with Randall May, hence the new harnesses that Pearl is prototyping this summer.
Cadetsnare
From what I have heard, Pearl is no longer affiliated with Randall May, hence the new harnesses that Pearl is prototyping this summer. Incorrect. Pearl is most certainly still affiliated with RMI, and still offers their products. They are prototyping a new carrier to offer for sale with their drums as a cost-saving measure. If someone has a challenge with any May product, they are more than welcome to call Randy at the factory. He is more than willing to bend over backwards to help people with any problems that might arise. He is a dear, dear friend of mine, and he is willing to help at any time. To Parkbench...Randy is currently working on a solution for the Pearl frum sagging issue. There should be a retrofittable fix available very soon. And yet another incorrect rumor on DCP. I am a Pearl artist, and just got back from tour yesterday, and am spending 3 days with SCV starting tomorrow. I'll check out the new carriers and report back.
