  1. Sorry it's been a few years since I marched. At regionals they would release scores preliminarily throughout the day rather than all the scores at the end of the day. It was always a big deals listening for Dan Potter to announce "And a preliminary score for the Mandarins is..."
  2. Probably a dumb question...but are they releasing preliminary scores at the regionals this year?
  3. Thank you for actually having a reason behind your opinion other than "ITZ NOT TRADITION THEYRE UNIFORMS SUCK". This is not something I had considered. I appreciate that they are evolving with the times, but the performance value of facial expressions has not been something to take too heavily into consideration on the field until now. I imagine those that are experienced or involved in WGI are probably better at this than those who are not.
  4. WOW! Mandarins topped Phantom in guard and BK in Vis analysis! Lots of proud alumni tonight, including myself!
  5. From the DCI website: "Since the Percussion score is one that is divided in half before being added to the final score, this caption was responsible for 0.55 of the difference between the two corps. Considering that Cadets finished 0.30 under Crown, the fall in Percussion was the difference between 2nd and 3rd place." Makes you wonder, would the drum score have been enough to bridge the deficit?
  6. Both of the schools I teach will be starting August 17th. This would make for a rather hairy situation if the season was still extended a week or two.
  7. He didn't realize he was about to go between the DM and the corps (HUGE mistake). In the blink of an eye, the DM turned around, whipped his sword out, held it out in his way, and said, "You shall not pass." He didn't.
  8. My friend's dad almost got his head cut off by Troopers' DM in 06. Learned his lesson real fast. ...and I didn't know that that's a REAL sword in his holster.
  9. I see all my Mandarins brethren! I wish I was there at the ceremony aging out with them... :(
  10. That girl is laura koester...daughter of the amazing jw koester! I marched with her at mandarins in 05 and 06. She's an AMAZING performer, I'm glad to see that she got to play martha this year. I almost didnt recognize her!
  11. Looking at the scores from Murfeesboro, it seems that Cascades are doing the right thing. Closing the gap between them and Pioneer, plus they scored higher in drums. As you can imagine I'm VERY happy for my students. :)
  12. Indeed. The goal of any corps coming off a year of inactivity should be to stabilize and provide a positive experience for the members. I have been in contact with several of my students who are in the percussion section and they say that they are having a blast. In addition, I believe the average age of the corps right now is around 17, so more important than ever is establishing a good experience to maintain a high retention rate of members. As the members improve, and they stay with the corps, they will be very competitive once again.
  13. Congrats to Cascades for boosting their score almost 3 points in one night! A great way to end a 5-day-show-streak. I hope they use this to build momentum going into week 5!
  14. Thank you for posting these photos! I have two students marching at Cascades (snareline and front ensemble), and my girlfriend is the front ensemble tech. It's great to see how they're doing, even if it's just a glimpse into rehearsal.
  15. From what I have heard, Pearl is no longer affiliated with Randall May, hence the new harnesses that Pearl is prototyping this summer.
  16. I think that Phantom have achieved a dark sound with their tenors due to the fact that Dynasty increased the depth of the drum shells. BD's tenor sound sounds like their regular tuning scheme on Pearls - but with the deeper Dynasty shells, it's pretty much the same thing.
  17. Last question: Has anyone heard the pearl Carbonplies indoors? I'm assuming it would be a disaster, but I'm curious.
  18. THey've been using the stik for quite awhile, as I recall. Personally, I dislike the stik, and think that they can do much better in terms of drum stand sponsorships.
