  1. It'll never change. . . came and took Div 2 by surprise and then took Div 1 by surprise, now that they bumped someone else out of finals that was normally there (even though it was technically another corps that bumped them out) they're going to be the punching bag for it.
  2. The Facebook page/Website that created those are people who do these sort of things all the time just to get a rise out of people and it works which is why that page is relatively popular. Please do your fact checking before trying to take the amazing accomplishment away from those young men and women who worked so hard to be able to perform tomorrow.
  3. There are some image hosting sites that show your image on an HTML page, so you'll need to make sure that the extension is something like gif, jpeg, jpg, png Extensions like that.
  4. As awesome as Rennick is I don't see a need for that for crown. Those guys and gals at crown were throwing down this year, sure it had it's rough moments but they gave it EVERYTHING they had all the time. And that's why they improve the way they did. This years crown reminds me of Cadets percussion last year. It was pretty rough for most of the season, and then they came back this year and kicked ###. I see Crown staying with their current perc staff and moving up in the rankings next year in terms of perc standings.
  5. Also shouldn't you throw academy up above PC? Academy was what...2 points ahead of PC and I'm certain if Academy was in Cali they would have stayed in front of PC. I understand the point in this but there are a bunch of flaws right now. :/
  6. I find it interesting that with all the promotion from people that there's still only 7,800 signatures. DCI alone has over 185k likes on Facebook. It seems as though there's people out there who have a strong opinion about this but aren't sharing it. Sure it'd be great to have more recognition, but I think we should start at the state levels first before trying to go to a national level. If one state gets involved heavily in the music and does some promoting of it on the national level then others will step in. Shoot, why doesn't Indy do some promotion on the National Level saying that they want to make March 4th "Marching Arts Day" So while the idea behind this is great it seems as the execution isn't there, and it should be re-thought about where to start with this "March Forth Day".
  7. Was there anybody at The Academy open house that can give us some more details? And also the cover photo on their facebook is red. Does that mean their going back to their roots with some red in their uniform this year?
  8. I wouldn't say that these drums sound horrible. I think you just don't like the tuning preference of those individuals at PC. And for example look at Blue Devils and Phantom when they used Dynasty drums. I personally hated the sound that BD had with their Dynastys, but didn't mind the sound of Phantoms. Now Rennick worked with the folks at Dynasty and their snares really sound good now. Personally I think Mapex have some good drums that compete with the others. It's just a matter of tuning in the long run. Can give more examples if needed, but it shouldn't be needed.
  9. I think a good way to look at this situation is from 2008 - 2010 with SCV. It was a similar situation with Brian Mason as the arranger for percussion but Murray Gusseck was the caption head and chose the staff that was with him all summer. Although Mason had a larger role with SCV during that time than I think Paul will have this year. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited about this as well (it's awesome news!) I just don't want people getting their hopes up that Paul will be with the Troopers during their rehearsals and on tour. I'm definitely not downing on this in any way and I think it'll be a good direction for the troopers.
  10. He is still on Vanguard staff, nothing is changing there. I think a lot of people don't realize that. He's only arranging and consulting.
  11. As much I want to say this is awesome this just makes me think that the death of Open Class is on the horizon. Anybody that does well and isn't a feeder corps gets moved up, so it seems that the B corps are the ones that are holding Open Class together.
  12. Exactly it would change A LOT of things I think. So can we start getting this to go around DCP now then? :)
  13. So could this be the reason why Drum Corps is dying then? Because people only care about the current top groups. . You yourself proved my point that the top corps won't want order to be mixed up. When fans of top corps don't want it, why would they? Why not have every NON regional show be random order. . . and then the regional be based off of average of your scores. The current system does not offer a fair scoring chance for all corps. Personally it seems like the lower corps that are touring are wasting money right now, but DCI doesn't think that because they are advertising for them. So of course they will say "oh judging is changing, blah blah blah" but in reality nothing is changing.
  14. So a 13th place finish in 2007, and then this past year had the biggest jump from prelims to semis than any other corps had at almost 2 points. I agree with SuviDuvi though. . they never get respect. Watching on DCP for many years back when they were in Div II they were trashed on and always saying "Oh these guys should move up to Div I and stop owning the guys in Div II" Then they move up and are doing good and still don't get the credit they deserve. I'm surprised they got 13th then even with the politics involved in this activity. Also, Christian went from Academy to Phantom and right out of the gates, PR brass scored higher than Academy. The season went on, scores were higher and higher than 2011 for The Academy. Sure, each groups weren't identical but to tell everyone that a 3 point gap going from 2011 Academy Brass to 2012 Brass PR is correct just seems kind of weird. So does this mean that The Academy should have been scoring higher than they really were? Or what about Shane at PR, should Spirits percussion have been scoring higher prior to the move to PR? And I'm not a percussion guy, but I thought The Academy percussion was better this year than last yet still scored lower. It just seems like the lower corps always get shafted, not just The Academy but all of them. Why don't they shake things up a little bit and do a random drawing for quarterfinals. So Pioneer could end up going on last and Crown, BD, Cadets, Phantom, etc. . could go on first. Or should we not do that because we don't want to upset the top corps? Or why don't they just do random show times for regular shows. Sure at your home show you can go on last, but why not randomize the time slots during the entire summer?
  15. I'm with you. I think part of the thing that people don't realize, is you go from a show that required audience participation to something that didn't. (They handed out thundersticks for crying out loud) Of course the audience is going to be more engaged with JS's show over Academy. And then I think the fact that they were late just caused a spiral effect. From what I heard they had a consistent show with their other shows. They used to be scoring relatively high in GE, but no longer the case it seems. And how is that? If a panel of judges ask to see changes and you make them why should scores be going backwards instead of forwards? But even then I haven't heard of them making huge changes, so I don't see why GE would be going backwards when they are performing at the same level. Yes the penalty should be there from what I hear, but the score without the penalty is definitely way too low.
  16. So basically what they are saying is that if all those corps went head to head right now that's what the placement would be? Somehow I'm not certain I believe that. .
  17. Isn't this what they did with percussion judges and it turned out to be a bad thing? Especially when you get a bad comment from the box about something that should be the field judges area. Like individual playing techniques, etc. . Sure you can see sticks moving from the box but I'm certain you can't see how they are holding the sick/mallet/etc. . So while I agree that things are different in the box than on field, I think there should be some training and make it known that judges should only comment on the bigger picture from the box, rather than try to nit pick the little things that they really can't see.
  18. So I remember at the Cine cast they were talking about it's a Phantom year to win percussion, but is it actually a Rennick year to win percussion? So that meaning SCV.
  19. From Jim Taylor on facebook: It looks like 'Operation Teal Sound' has turned out to be quite successful! Does anyone have a tally of the amount of Teal members who have been able to find a home in another corps?
  20. I don't think these drums look like bass drums. With all the innovation that has been made in marching percussion, this is the next thing? I don't think any drum corps will use them because the interval range and projection of these drums.
  21. So for all the people who complain about The Academy and that they need to do a full tour here's your shot to do something about it. There's roughly 20k members on this site. I know not all of them visit, but I'm sure a vast majority do. So rather than complaining about The Academy and that they aren't being fair to all the other corps why don't you go and vote for them to help them on their full tour this year. You don't even have to spend a single penny!! You have 10 votes, so vote for The Academy and then all of the other drum corps that are listed as well.
  22. Wait, so you're saying that no other corps recruit people? Only The Academy does this?! No way! There's never been anybody who has played a WW instrument and switched over to a Brass/Percussion instrument or even guard, to be able to march right?
