Holes?

Recommended Posts

Some believe that holes have no bearing on the judges scores. I used to think that ( say ) 12 holes in line would hurt your performance scores, particularly in the Visual captions. However, I've seen this year where it's entirely possible for a Corps scores to go up by having 12 holes. So I'm not as confident any longer that holes affect one's score in a negative manner. The research data this year ( ie, the judges scores from show to show ) in fact does not support the contention that holes negatively affect a Corps score.

As long as the hole can be seen during the entire show, as if it were a member itself, and is not lost occasionally due to interval problems, then usually the score won't suffer... and it shouldn't... the members can't control the fact that there's a hole so as long as they leave the hole and leave it the same the whole time they shouldn't be punished.

Glassmen are advertising a baritone hole and a mellophone hole that they need people for. They have a piece of paper on their souvie trailer about it.

I recall Bluecoats having some holes but I'm not sure if they still had them in San Antonio since I didn't watch it yet.

I've been watching the Houston shows and I can't believe how many corps still have holes at this late stage in the game (as DCI is August 8th). I'm wondering if it's mostly due to injuries or if they are still in need of members.

Some shows just look extra dirty right now because of the holes - and you know it must be affecting scores!

It's a very demanding activity. People get injured. People decide it's too grueling and quit. Some corps have replacements who are coming in, but haven't learned the drill yet. Drills and music are demanding and it takes time.
