CrunchyTenor
Renegades 83.463 SoCal Dream 71.138 Anaheim Kingsmen 63.175 Somehow it doesn't seem fair that Dream is having one of it's best seasons ever and won't be going to Rochester. With the next month to rehearse, they might have had a legitimate shot at the A Class title. Renegades are up almost 7 points from this weekend last year. Are they back in the upper tier? MiniSopGuy
We have talked about that amongst ourselves, and even with the turn over we had in the battery, we were still able to give the fans a great show. However, the only way we have the corps we currently have is by not having the expense of travel to Rochester. It is just not financially possible for at least 50% of our corps this year. Now if someone would like to sponsor the $18,000-$20,000 it would cost us..........

Kinda begs the question, tho -- based on something I think YOU said, Bob. When the decision NOT to go to DCA came down, I think you said you suddenly got more members (due to the lower cost). I think I remember Marlon saying in 05 there were a TON of people at Open House (I was working that day and couldn't go), but when the tour fees came out, which included fees to get us to DCA, the numbers plummeted. So I wonder how much of the scoring success is due to skilled people marching this year BECAUSE of the decision not to go to DCA and thus lower the per member cost. WOULD the corps be as good as it is now if DCA were happening and the fees stayed high for the trip??

In my opinion, it's kind of refreshing to see a corps management dealing with reality. So you'd get two more shows, and it would cost you more than the entire rest of the season. This way you have a building season, hold on to some money and establish your credentials as a force to be reckoned with in the days to come. Sounds like Drum Corps 101, which too many have failed - and for which you get an A!!

That the West Coast corps have a distinct obstacle in recruiting, if they plan on an expensive trip to Prelims. We don't really get to see the corps that each could put out, from their area, with all things (travel and costs) being equal. Maybe gives us more respect for what Renegades and Dream have been able to do at DCA, given that much potential membership talent is likely left behind, each year, due to this factor. Looking forward to the So Cal crew, at Mini-corps! Edited July 20, 2009 by brassomaniac

The achilles heel of West Coast senior corps in relation to DCA is the tremendous expense just to get to DCA weekend, a total cost which I imagine exceeds many DCA's corps budgets for the entire year. Hence why I plan to keep En Garde out west when we finally reform....not worth it to go all that way for one show.
Jeff Ream
now that the Kingsmen Sr are out there...are there plans to formally create DCA West?
crpowell
now that the Kingsmen Sr are out there...are there plans to formally create DCA West? In my unqualified opinion, I believe that would be feasible the season after the West Coast sends 3 corps to DCA. If the Freelancers keep it up, we might even get 4! drumlaw80
now that the Kingsmen Sr are out there...are there plans to formally create DCA West? I sure hope so. If the three West corps continue to look out for one another and stick around while others are formed, DCA West is a real possibility someday.
