BillH
Verdi - Requiem Nice, but with only part of a show (closer at that) I think Verdi's LaForza del Destino Overture would be GREAT. Imagine the sopranos (sorry, trumpets) covering those violin parts!
Lance
Actually the music we discussed is not the final decision so............... if anyone has suggestions I'm all ears.Parameters are: Great closer material Perfect pacing after Nimrod Great material for battery as well as brass. Romantic Not English or French composer. Go for it!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, I'm going to say the last movement of Beethoven 5. It's not as well-known as the 1st movement, and it fits the parameters above as well as anything, IMO. Great closer? Check Just listened to it right after Nimrod, and it works great. Check Good stuff for brass and an excellent battery writer? Check Romantic? Yeah, Beethoven 5 is one of the 1st big romantic works, IMO. So check. Non anglo or franco composer? Check. Paralda
Please NOT the Janacek Fanfare...unless you want to build your whole show around this PERFECT work for drum corps. But to just do the fanfare...well, that's just wrong - But it's such a perfect closer motif! Finlandia is a great piece...huge ending...has it ever been done by drum corps? Finlandia is awesome. FHdork
Bruckner! No "Song of the Night"? And such a classic euphonium feature...
Bruckner8
Bruckner! No "Song of the Night"? And such a classic euphonium feature... It doesn't meet the criteria "Perfect pacing after Nimrod," lol. Personally, I'd get rid of Nimrod, and put the slow parts of Mahler 7 in there... FHdork
I'd get rid of it all...and to an eleven + minute version of the Janacek Sinfonietta...
Bruckner8
I'd get rid of it all...and to an eleven + minute version of the Janacek Sinfonietta... Only if you hire a Czech Choreographer and a Czech Conductor as consultants. The music is cool, but putting it on a field will require vision unknown to current DC intelligentsia. MikeD
I'd get rid of it all...and to an eleven + minute version of the Janacek Sinfonietta... I've been insisting Regiment do that for years! But they do not listen
