garfield
"...all the corps have a deep intertwining and a interrelationship..." Exactly the opposite of the G7 contention that they are singular and that the other WC and OC corps are less important to the activity. garfield
"...dealing with a college age student..." "...the older the student the fewer events their parents and friends attend." This is certainly validation of the idea of appealing to marching band's younger members. Edited June 11, 2010 by garfield
Matt_S
I think it should give the G-7 pause, at least. The G-7 proposal calls for a distinctly new "woods " judging caption of 18-20 point allotment. With " woods ", they are not talking about golf clubs. We all know what that caption calls for. This is how lies get started and repeated. This post is patently false. Page 41 of the proposal clearly lists the caption as "Winds", which would be one of three performance captions worth 20 points each.

The G-7 Powerpoint Presentaton even had the comment ( direct quote )... " these Corps provide no real service ". What a disgusting, arrogant,.. and FALSE statement for them to make. If a true statement, one would have to believe that none of the G-7 Corps at any time in the past have received the benefits of the membership in THEIR Corps of marchers who marched previously in the Corps that allegedly " provide no real service ". I agree with your correction, Matt, but is there any doubt that, historically, DCI has referred to "Winds" as "Brass", and that using "Winds" opens the door to include woodwinds? garfield
Did anyone catch (or know) the name of Steve Auditore's marketing company? Potter is not clear enough for my ear.

Ok, but by renaming the caption winds and not just brass, that is still them saying that they wish to add woodwinds on the field and calling all the field instruments, sans battery, winds, just like a Wind Ensemble, right? garfield
Did anyone catch (or know) the name of Steve Auditore's marketing company? Potter is not clear enough for my ear. Got it. It's called Vaticinate. He's in Dayton. If anyone else is interested, that is.

The chief architect of the G-7 proposal is on record for the use of " woodwinds " in competition, and is actively pushing for it's inclusion on the field of competition in the G-7 for the future. In essence, he is for the abolition of Drum Corps as we know it, and for the future development of full blown marching band that uses elements of the Drum Corps style in their format. This is undeniable. The notion that the G-7 proposal, if adopted in the manner it's chief architect envisions, will not include the provision for the future use of woodwinds in future competition is patently false. garfield
Interesting article on Project Persona, done by Auditore's firm for DCI in 2008. It states many of the stats that this survey finds. It appears DCI has been working on this problem for some time and not had their head in the sand about the basis for assumptions about the future of the activity. http://www.drumcorpsworld.com/articles.cfm?ID=
