Children,Children, lets put away the bows and arrows!! The Cadets and Carolina Crown are (thank goodness!!) two completely different drum corps. There are some similarities, there are a lot of differences. But they're both great drum corps and usually a treat to watch. This squabbling is sort of like (not being very modest here) Peggy Fleming and Dorothy Hammil fussing about who was the better skater--the one who did her spins to the left, or the one who did her spins to the right.

Most of us who are sitting here have very little real concept of just exactly how hard those kids are working to entertain us. (That sentence didn't get good marks for grammar) I do think that the bar has been raised to such a degree that if you took corps members from a world championship corps of twenty years ago, IN SHAPE, like Scotty beamed them here from 1990, they would probably have a hard time keeping up in a corps like the Cadets or Crown.

Lets celebrate the fact that we have SO MUCH to celebrate! And we have a new picture of Hoppy!!

I have a question to you all and I was sitting last night with a couple of judges that were there watching the show next to me. I have also been an instructor and a judge on the HS level so I would say I have some basic knowledge of what goes on. After watching the shows last night the Cavilers looked horrible the first run through but really did a great job the second time through. It was like watching a different corps the second time. The score didn't show the improvement the second time around.

The Cadets have a really nice program and I and everyone around me thought they were on a different level with demand than the other two and especially Crown who stands still with very little movement for much of the show. ( I Am sorry but they stand still an aweful lot!) Although I will say that Crowns show was nice it dropped off to kind of boring towards the end. They were like this last year too, then added alot but still move much less than the Cadets. At last years Championship I think The Cadets finally got the credit they deserved and if it wasn't for the percussion score they had a chance to be in second.

Where does importance of demand play into the score? I liked Crowns show this year but it seems like visually they just don't give you a lot.( it was kinna marching bandish) Music wise I don't think there is a better sound. They play well. I do like the show a lot better this year and they impressed me with that huge monster sound!

Please give some input and for the record I am NOT Bashing Crown.

I have a lot of experience as a past DCI judge so I will answer your question: visual is becoming more and more a color guard, body movement, theme oriented "animal". unfortunately, drill, relative to interesting and complex form development is hence less crutial. It's unfortunte in my opinion and since the wgi judges have fully infultrated the drum corps visual caption there's little hope for a comeback relative to substantive drill. look at last years national champions. how many minutes did they hang out by their set ups. I mean chairs. pretty hard to miss your spot!

I can see where he's coming from, but before everyone gets down my throat, I'm just comparing to my feelings from last year with Crown...

At the beginning of last year I thought Crown stood still A LOT. It couldn't believe it. Well, by the end of the season they added, and changed, and I was COMPLETELY sold. I LOVED their show and felt the amount of variety and flow was fantastic. They have moments where they move like crazy and moments of wonderful artistry.

I totally agree. I hated thier show the begining of last year. I like the show this year , They will ad a lot that is true.

Thats a great sentiment ! We can all be biased but the bottom line is that all the corps work their butts off to get to this point.

No need to admonish anyone here -- this quite well-behaved by DCP standards :)
