If the Blue Stars had won, it would have been their first time placing higher than 7th, and the lowest placement for Santa Clara Vanguard since 2005 (which was the lowest the corps has ever placed). The Vanguard held on to 7th place, however, winning by a tenth of a point. " First, if Blue Stars had beaten SCV they wouldn't have placed higher than 7th, they would have placed 7th. Second, unless I fell asleep somewhere along the line, Blue Stars placed 2nd in 1972, 3rd in 1973, 5th in 1975 and 7th in 1977 (corpsreps places us 6th because of the Bridgemen thing).
