bill
I look forward to DCAC growing and the possibility of some "Regional Throwdown" where all DCAC and DCAS corps would do a large show in a central location (Memphis or St Louis). Racine would be a fine place for a showdown; at Historic Horlick Field.
CorpsBuff
We were thinking of starting a corps in Delaware called the Dover Thunder but decided on Buccalleros instead...we didn't want to confuse anyone..... Don't joke about that, I would LOVE to have a Delaware Drum Corps (think tax free!) On another note, I may be the only person from Delaware to march in both The Buccaneers and The Caballeros (Unless you count St. Raphael's Buccaneers, then Cliff Richmond counts too). While I agree with your enthusiasm about that and it makes a great deal of sense. I think the regions are probably years away from that. Too many corps coming and going right now to really count on a corps being there in August. The region needs to build some stability first and when that happens it will be ripe for the pickings. Stability is probably going to happen about the same time the economy gets better is my prediction.

A corps that looked like it could weather the storm of the economy from the outside, but we all know how that has turned out... It is great to see that they have plans to return this year. I think the Brigs joining Class A for a season would certainly bring even more attention to the Class A scene... not that they need any more. If I was a Class A corps, I would get that much more excited if I knew I was going up against a former DCA Open Class Champion - especially one with their history! stldrmn1
Racine would be a fine place for a showdown; at Historic Horlick Field. Will I need to renew my Passport to get to Racine from Indiana? I would offer Indy as a Central "Throw Down Site." Great facilities, super cooperation among schools, and a built in local audience for the activity. With DCI, Bands Of America and the Percussive Arts Society headquartered downtown, I guarantee we could "Get-ER-Done." Indianapolis is centrally located, great expressway access and less than eight hours from Atlanta, So, we could have a Central - South shoot out!! Besides Central Indiana is home to two great DCI programs - The Bloomington Scouts (formally of Madison Wis) and the Indianapolis Blue Stars (Formally of LaCross Wis). Besides, I'm tired of driving! stldrmn1
Thirty-four All-Age corps, from around the country, on an incomplete list is absolutely great. Will they all make it to DCA Finials this year, who cares it's only a matter of time before the fledging growth of today becomes the solid competitors of tomorrow. The possibility of twice the number of "A" corps to Open corps in competition this year, is a hugely positive outlook for our entire activity. To have, within the DCA family, the ability, and opportunity, to grow from a group of I&E competitors to a Mini Corps, to an "A" Corps, and then on to an Open Corps is one of the best things we've got going. However, as we've seen with Mini Corps, the possibility of "A" corp "specialists" just strengthens, and improves the activity for all of us. Unlike the other drum corp circuit, DCA's encouragement, and support of the up and comers as well as that of the established corps, will ensure that the All-Age activity continues to grow across the country. camel lips
Besides championships I must say that the DCAC shows I have attended have been the best run and best attended. Fans really come out for the shows and are very enthusiastic about seeing all the corps. The Kilties show a few years ago was the best I have ever been too. Cold beer on tap and real bratwurst. Whats more to like?
