What's Better - 1st Place or Best Caption?

Recommended Posts

While I was with DCA's Sunrisers, we won three DCA titles (the corps added three more titles after I left, and then the Class A title in 2007).

I was a horn player; our horn line won one High Brass trophy during those three title years I was there for (1978). That felt great, but winning those other two titles felt just as good, even without the horn trophy.

BTW.... that 1978 High brass trophy for us featured the first-ever perfect 10 in a GE caption in DCA history.... when we scored a 10 in GE Brass at Finals in '78. THAT felt REALLY good!!!

I marched Regiment from 86-90.

In 89 we won Horns and Visual, but finished 2nd.

Personally I would trade the caption awards for the win.

In 90 we finished 4th but again won Visual.

I was an instructor in 96 when we tied for 1st with BD.

All in all I have no complaints. Even finishing 2nd in 89.

I still get goose bumps when I watch that show. Very happy to have been a part of it.

Totally agree with you on this. I would love to have the ring.

Winning visual or brass really meant nothing in the 70's. It was all about the "ring." You don't see any signature lines here that include caption victories. They are meaningless. Of course, like Sam, I might be a bit "jaded." After '77, the '78 & '79 finishes just honked me off.
