Plan9
Answer the following basic questions. Don't avoid them, don't joke about how I should take a chill pill, or how drum corps isn't about that. Drum corps is about this. --What is the lasting significance of a Burt Bacharach medley in history? The number of children concieved in the back of Buicks....... listening to them! --What is memorable or impactful about a Burt Bacharach medley? Melodies for a generation. Songs that were soundtracks of the lives of many of us. --How do the visual themes of obelisks and gazebos tie in to these Burt Bacharach tunes? Fences, gates, visual tags to frame the moment.....BD design play things.....just go see Cirque...you'll get it. --How do the themes of Burt Bacharach directly relate the lives of these young performers and why they're playing it? "Now I have nothing, so God give me strength. Because I'm weak in her wake, and if I'm strong I might still break; And I don't have anything to share, that I won't throw away into the air. That song is sung out, This bell is rung out; She was the light that I'd bless, She took my last chance of happiness, So God give me strength, God give me strength. God, if she'd grant me her indulgence and declined I might as well wipe her from my memory, Fracture the spell, as she becomes my enemy. Maybe I was washed out like a lip-print on his shirt; See, I'm only human I want him to hurt I want him......I want him to hurt! Since I lost the power to pretend That there could ever be a happy ending; That song is sung out, This bell is rung out She was the light that I'd bless She took my last chance of happiness, So God give me strength God give me strength!" (Bacharach & Costello) Imagine if you will any human who has been heartbroken (from Shakespear's time, or ever) ... that would wish to form these thoughts, these words. Relate to these young performers?....eternally. Edited July 6, 2011 by Plan9
