  1. I'm with the OP on this one. This next year, I'm gonna "test the waters" via youtube before I make a final decision on whether I will follow drumcorps or not via the fan network/going to shows. It's just like you said. Too many things have changed for the worse and I'm tired of "tolerating" them. People need to stop taking this activity so seriously (as far as being "art"). It's not. Get over yourselves. It's kids marching and playing musical instruments on a football field (well, sometimes it is, anyway...), nothing more. If you love what drumcorps has become, then good for you. News flash: I'm not you, so don't expect me to like the same things you do and tell me I need to have an "open mind" or whatever. Do what you want, actually. I won't be here anyway. Moderators, please delete this account. See yaaaaa!!!
  2. I'm guessing McKayla is the chick in the background with her arms folded?
  3. Just goes to show you, if you repeat a lie often enough, people will start to believe it.
  4. Which makes more sense?: "If you have a small business, you didn't build that (business)" OR "If you have a small business, you didn't build that (roads and bridges)" It is exactly what he meant. Though I don't feel this thread is the place for this, I felt I needed to at least reply to your comment. (In other words, you started it...okay, maybe michsta8 started it lol)
  5. THANK YOU! This is exactly how I feel. I think it's really ridiculous how seriously some people take this activity and the various "artistic" programs. It's just people marching and playing/spinning on a football field. We all love it still, but it gets taken WAY too seriously by some.
  6. I love the high level of execution and just general excellence that this corps exhibits. It's stunning to watch them execute at such a high level. Just amazing.
  7. Of course, this is a forum for discussion, so everyone should be able to give their opinions, but I agree that it can get a little out of hand sometimes. So, cheers to you, OP.
  8. To each his/her own, but I have to say that I just don't care for any of today's music. I would rather listen to talk radio (and I do.) But, that's just my opinion. I'm all for new music, though, I just don't want as many ANY electronics in the shows. Call me old school, call me a dino, just don't call me late for supper.
  9. I really don't understand all the BD honks (sorry, but that's the best way to describe them) who think that the reason that we fans dislike (or strongly dislike in some cases) BD's show is because they are winning a lot. Even if they were down in 8th place, I would still say, "Man, I really hate the narration in BD's show..." It's the CONTENT of the show that we dislike. I just don't understand what the heck the judges are seeing in this show, especially as far as GE is concerned. I feel like there is definitely a disconnect between what the audience in general likes and what the judges THINK the audience in general likes. I can only speak for myself, of course, but I see an awful lot of people just on these forums alone who feel the same way that I do, and this is only a tiny fraction of the DCI audience, as I'm sure will be pointed out. Anyway, I like waffles. I'm tired and am going to bed.
  10. This. Wow, just...wow. Yeah! Pass the haterade! I see the OP's point, and I was thinking about this the other day. Crown's show is one of my favorites this year, but I can't really honestly say that I love it. I really want Crown to win, but if I'm honest, I have to say that a lot of that is not just because I like their show more than most of the corps out there, but because I dislike BD's show so much. Not turning this into an anti-BD thread, just sayin. If I thought it were really possible, I would really like for Phantom to win it all this year, as they have the most enjoyable show of the year, for me, at least. Anyway, it doesn't really matter where Crown places this year, I will always love to listen to that glorious hornline. Crown's hornline is truly head and shoulders WAY above the rest of the competition, imo.
  11. I'm sorry, but I'm not playing by the "no corps more than once" rule because I wouldn't truly have an "ultimate top 12" for me, one that I would want to watch, anyway... 1. 2008 Phantom Regiment "Spartacus" 2. 1987 Santa Clara Vanguard "Russian Christmans Music" 3. 2004 Santa Clara Vanguard "Scheherazade" 4. 1995 Madison Scouts "A drumcorps fan's dream" 5. 1997 Madison Scouts "The pirates of lake Mendota" 6. 1999 Madison Scouts "Jesus Christ Superstar" 7. 1991 Madison Scouts "City of Angels" 8. 2010 Blue Stars "Houdini" 9. 2002 Crossmen "The signature series" 10. 1992 Velvet Knights "Magical Mystery Tour" 11. 2001 Madison Scouts "Power, pizazz and all that jazz" 12. 2003 Spirit from JSU "Time" I was as shocked as anyone to see the Scouts on there so many times, and I was amazed I didn't have Cavies, Cadets, or Blue Devils on there once, but these are my favorites of each placement from over the years.
  12. Actually, Cavies got second place in 91', not third. Just sayin.
  13. Give me a break. They're not booing the kids and you know it. They're booing the judges' decisions and they have every right to, just like you have the right to cheer your favorite corps on. And no, I don't like the booing either but it happens.
  14. That's EXACTLY what I thought. There is a high cam, you know. (I guess you have to be a FN subscriber, though?)
  15. Yup, that's a Rennick line alright. Great video, but I wish they would've shown the tenors some, especially during that sick run...that was...epic.
  16. Don't worry, it's already been decided, according to many on here. Blue Devils will win and Crossmen will place 13th. These people must be able to see into the future or something... As far as the poll, I chose seven corps who had "same" or "better" shows, but I believe that 2012 was a better year. I just enjoyed the shows more last year, in general, than I do this year. I guess I was one of the few to say that Cadets' show is better this year than last year's. I really, really didn't like the music (or lack of) last year very much. Don't get me wrong, it was alright, but it just didn't grab me. It was all about visual last year. This year, they have VERY crowd-friendly music together with a great (though dirtier than last year) drill. Cue the scrooges to come in with their "bah-humbugs"...
  17. LOL Saw the new ending. So, it's the standard double company front in Nessun Dorma, followed by a solid chevron form which is held while the corps parks a beat or two, and then a step forward, still in the chevron form with a kick-halt. I liked all of that just fine, but then they changed the writing in Nessun Dorma, and I'm not sure I care for this. It will certainly have to grow on me, I guess. I really liked the way it was before, but oh well. They end up with the corps spread from 40 to 40? (It was hard to tell from the video I saw) and they form a "heart" in the middle of the form (outline). Anyway, it's out there still, just have to know how to find it.
  18. This is the future of drumcorps...and the future is AWESOME! P.S.- I HATE electronics in drumcorps.
