Stu
I've read the latest comments and I must say this about my earlier defense of his possible motives. I was a fool. Please forgive me. We still love ya!!!
Stu
I'm talking about in comparison to other corps of the same era who actually could play in tune. This charlatan spin again goes completely against your first posting. Yep, that snake oil of yours sure works!
BariBrian
Not wanting to start trouble, just putting things in perspective. There seems to be a constant argument on these forums about how the number of corps that have folded over the years is somehow a bad thing. I would argue that scholastic marching bands have replaced these local drum corps and generally do a much better job of it. About making sense, I am not sure how it would not make sense to state that only a handful of those corps could actually play in tune. This is not something subjective. If even the absolute best of the best in the late 60's and early 70's struggled to play in tune, it should be quite clear that those placing on a lower level would not be executing nearly as well. LOL The reason it doesn't make sense is because it was brought up for no reason. It really had nothing to do with the post. It was just something that you wanted to say. I deal with children that do that. Thats all I'm saying. It was said in the hopes of stirring things up and really had no bearing on the OP's post, other then to put down the quality of corps from the past which apparently in your opinion is good that they are in the past. I respect that you do not care for the past corps, but if thats the case, don't come to the Historical sight, because its full of folks that DO care for those corps. Stay with the current discusions Threads. To not do so, with the opinion that you seem to have, merely shows that you are looking to start something. I would think to someone of your intellegence, that this course would make no sense and look just a little bit like a child. I was suggesting that it was not as big of a loss as the original poster had implied. For every one of those local corps that folded, a scholastic program stepped up to take its place. Going back ages ago... to when I was a kid, when I was in marching band in high school, we could see the stadium lights of 2 other schools form our field. Since I was in school, there are 4 more new schools in the city... all with great marching band programs. Since the 70's the number of new and solid school marching band programs that have appeared are several times that of the number of corps that have folded since then. Could you provide us with a flow chart to help us follow your chain of logic? I suspect it would look something like this.

And what happens when school budgets dictate that these great programs be shut down or reined in, as mine just did. To be happy for the disappearance of what was makes no logic sense. Ages ago? =) I was married and out for several years by the time that you are talking about. Edited February 13, 2012 by BariBrian

Dagnabit Boo, quit reminding me of work.... (30+ years computer specialist with Dept of Defense). All that's missing is a two hour "explaination" followed by: "Any Questions.. Jim?" "You do know that this #### doesn't work that way". Yeah... 30+ years I can say what I think....

To be happy for the disappearance of what was makes no logic sense. They should look at alternatives for financial support other than tax revenues.
