Interesting Results and Moving Forward

This is the first time since 1996 that the seventh place corps didn't score at least 90.

Here are some more useless stats:

Crown won their 3rd Brass trophy in the last 4 years (and third ever).

Blue Devils won their 5th straight, and 17th overall (most all time... actually 11 more than any other corps) colorguard trophy.

Blue Devils won their 12th percussion trophy (also most all time).

We know Blue Devils won their 15th Gold.

... but Crown won their 2nd Silver, which is actually tied for 6th most with Madison.

Phantom Regiment won their 5th Bronze, which is tied with the Cadets for 4th most all time.

The total medal count in the DCI era is now:

Blue Devils - 30

SCV - 21

Cadets - 21

Cavaliers - 18

Phantom Regiment - 11

One last interesting tidbit.....

Crown now has a 5 year average placement of 3.2 This is better than both Cadets (3.6), and Cavaliers (4.0). Quite the accomplishment if you ask me, considering how difficult it is to stay in the upper echelons of DCI if you are not one of the big 3.

Phantom Regiment's medal count is actually 12:

2 Gold (1996, 2008)

5 Silver (1977, 1978, 1979, 1989, 2006)

5 Bronze (1991, 1993, 1994, 2005, 2012)

I'd also like the point out some similarities between this year and 2009.

1. BD goes undefeated, winning guard, percussion, visual, and GE.

2. Crown places 2nd (highest placement for them), winning brass, with a fan favorite show.

3. One of the "top dogs" takes a big fall - PR in 2009 and Cavaliers in 2012.

4. SCV, Bloo, and BAC are 5th, 6th, 7th respectively. Bluecoats are on a competitive island by themselves, and 5th place SCV nearly takes over the 4th place spot (Cavies in 2009 and Cadets in 2012).

5. Placements 7-9 are competitively tight and swap places all season, but Boston ends up on top both years (2009 - BAC, BS, PR) (2012 - BAC, Cavies, Madison).

6. A recent (and usually strong) finalist falls out of finals - Madison in 2009 and Blue Stars in 2012.

7. A corps that had not made finals for a long time breaks in - Troopers (after 23 years) in 2009 and Crossmen (after 8 years) in 2012.

:sarcasm: Yes sir, your right. And while were at it, let's fix the scores and step on them Blue Stars with the heel of our cowboy boots and throw 'em under the bus where dose Troopers is hidin' out both of them corps ain't worth a hoot anymore even though people seems to like 'em. Dose corps is lost at sea without an island an the longer we keep 'em out of the finals people will start to forget 'em and dis will give us time to figure out how to use the spellchecker and punktation feature and put a corps together in Texas Plus at least we can use some of the boots that dose Troopers used to where

:sarcasm: Yeah, it's not like a corps can suddenly jump over the corps they are close behind overnight.

Like, say, the Blue Stars did in 2008 when they went from being 0.3 behind the Blue Knights in prelims to being 0.9 ahead of them the next day. That was the year they made finals after a long hiatus--jumping from 13th the year before into 8th place. That was the same year that the Crossmen had come in 12th for several regionals, but were displaced by the Madison because Madison had a late season surge.

The Crossmen's rise from 17th to 12th seems impressive unless you look back at what the Blue Stars did in 2008.
