A truly great man is gone and will be missed by all.

camel lips
Reposting this from Facebook. The Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps is saddened to report the passing of Robert "Bobby" Glovna late yesterday afternoon after a long battle with Lou Gehrig's Disease. Bob Glovna began his love of marching music in 1955 at age 10 as a trumpet player for the Madison School Band in Bridgeport, CT. Soon after, he attended the Barnum Festival’s “Parade of Champions” and was inspired to join Bridgeport’s own St. Raphael’s Golden Buccaneers Jr. Corps. There, he honed his craft as a lead soprano through 1960. In 1961, he joined the Connecticut Hurricanes and was fortunate enough to enjoy several championships during that decade. In 1970, Bob was tapped as the new Hurricanes’ Director and Business Manager and maintained that post through 1976. In addition to his long career with the Hurricanes, Bob served as Vice-President of Drum Corps Associates (DCA) from 1975 to 1983. In 1979, he was bestowed the great honor of being inducted into the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame. Mr. Glovna also served as Musical Chairman for the Barnum Festival from 1975-1980, being honored as the Barnum Festival Grand Marshal in 1980. In 2005, Bob became the Director and Business manager of Bridgeport’s popular Park City Pride Alumni Corps. Additionally, in 2007 Mr. Glovna became president of the World Drum Corps Hall of Fame. Throughout his long involvement in the Drum Corps activity, Bob Glovna was a friend, director, administrator, and most importantly a mentor to many that he crossed paths with. The Hurricanes organization is deeply saddened by this loss, and we extend our deepest sympathies to Patti and her family. vbc33
Y'all are fast! The announcement is posted on the DCP main page, Facebook, and will be on the DCA website shortly. I was waiting for another break at work to post it here. RIP Bob, and thoughts and prayers to your family and friends. Reposting this from Facebook. gtkube
I only met Bob a few years ago when he was director of Park City. He was a class act and became a good friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to Bob's family, the Hurricanes organization and the PCP family. Rest in peace Bob. ironlips
Having shared the field with and worked for Bobby on so many occasions over the past 50 years, I can truthfully say I never met a more honorable and courageous man. Most now think of him in a management role, but he was one hell of a solo soprano. Bob was the very definition of "a natural". When his photo appeared prominently on the front sleeve of Fleetwood's 1967 Mission Drums LP, he joked that he preferred that to the cover of Rolling Stone. Had he been a guitarist with even remotely similar skill, that would have been a certainty. http://www.fleetwoodsounds.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=195 My deepest condolences to Patti, their family and all who loved him.
rayfallon
Bob was a good guy, and loved the Hurricanes and DCA in no particular order. Later on he brought that same energy and intelligence to Park City Pride. As Frank pointed out above, he was a guy you would always choose to work for, and was one of the 4 or 5 guys with Genero, Luedee, Woods and Condon, who defined what the Hurricanes were and would probably always be. Condolences to his family and RIP Bob. Walk Proud and make some thunder from the beyond...
