Just curious...

Also, how many times has the eventual winner NOT been in first place after Semi's?

Since DCI went to the 2 Prelims format 29 years ago, no Corps has ever come from over half a point down in the Semi's to win the DCI Title. While there are many reasons put forth as to why the World Class Division Championships are for all intents and purposes decided at Semi Finals, we can only state the odds that 99% of the time, if you win the Semi Finals ( or coversely lose it ), then they'll be no placement shifts between 1st and 2nd at Finals. ' Can't explain it ( as Corps performance levels naturally are not always the same, and the entire judging panel is different ), we can only tell you what happens if history is our guide on these things.

Carolina Crown is pretty much a lock to win this tonite. BD is playing for pride and to retain runner up position now. They were too far back at Semi's in their score spread to have a shot, imo. I'll predict the Crown wins by 2-5 tenths tonite and gets their 1st DCI Title, and good for them.

Since eliminating ticks in 1984, the 2008 Blue Devils are the only corps to win semis and not win at least a share of the title.

Mike

And they lost by less than a tenth of a point too this year.

I think SCV in '99 was .85 or .9 behind BD coming into Finals, and ended tying. That might be the biggest spread made up in one day between Semis and Finals.

* Cavaliers overcame .7 in 2000

And even here, the Semi Finals winner in 2000 ( Cadets ) did not lose their Title ( they just had to share it with the Cavaliers, as they both tied at Finals )
