First World Champion from the South!

Recommended Posts

It seems worth mentioning that Carolina Crown is the first and only World Champion from the South. All other champions have been from California, the midwest and the northeast.

I believe the only other southern corps to break into the top six are:

Spirit of Atlanta (4th place in 1979 and 1980)

Suncoast Sound (5th place in 1986)

No lets just say east cost.

Virginia south is the South. They're quite proud of it as well. This is the first World Class champion from the south. A few of them have won in Open Class/Div.2 in the past, including Crown 20 years ago.

Suncoast Sound was 6th in 1983 and 1985. Spirit of Atlanta was 6th in 1984 and 1986. Interesting flip-flops these 2 corps would do for 6 seasons (83 to 88).

And I loved watching/hearing every minute of it!

Lets keep it simple East Cost, Mid West and West coast.

Lets keep it simple East Cost, Mid West and West coast.

That's a simple way to do it. I think most corps split themselves into East, South, Mid-west, West, Northwest, Texas. Few more splits.

Now we need to get Oregon Crusaders to win the title....they would be the first corps from the Pacific Northwest and the first corps to win all 3 divisions.
