Yep! And rumor has it we will never be back there. Pretty sad.

Never say never. And that's all I'll say about that.

Where did that rumor come from?

A while back and more than once, DCI subcommittees were not successful in obtaining cooperation from those who manage the Carrier Dome in Syracuse in even pursuing the possibility of an indoor regional there. Even now, other than university sponsored occasions, only the NY State high school field band championships are allowed to have contests there. At one of the times DCI looked, I was on the subcommittee as the then current Syracuse Varsity football coach was a personal friend of mine. He had no problems with the DCI possibility; in fact he respected the corps quite a bit.. It was the stadium management who were against it. The Dome has almost no near parking and the field band movement of equipment is always a hassle for their equipment trucks. Acoustics is another matter. The front sideline to audience distance is similar to Allentown.

Sounds like not a good idea.

Hershey had it a few times but problem is the landlord of the Stadium. Owned by one of the pieces of the Hershey Foods empire (HERCO? - Hershey Resorts & Entertainment) but forget which part, not that it matters in the long run. HERCO(?) has a long history of renting out the stadium but refusing to have a written contract. That way if a better deal comes along it's T.S. to the people who thought they had an agreement. That's what happened to the decades long Hershey regular season corps show. The corps group thought they had a stadium but then "Destinys Child" had a reunion tour and could hit Hershey the same night. *poof* No corps show and whole mess went to trial. Result of the trail was basically no signed contract, no case, not a great way to run a business but legal.

Kicker is every year the Big 33 has a HS All Star football game (PA vs another state) at the same stadium. Both sides sold out and tons of publicity in both states. Few years back it came out that Big 33 can't get HERCO to sign a contract for the stadium either. And Big 33 is probably the most public event held there.

Edit: Hershey Park would be open and has been expanded greatly the last few years and the parking lots have been revamped since last DCA. For a 2PM Prlims and 5PM Finals start I can see one Helluva long walk or tram ride to the Stadium. And no trams after the Park closes.....

Biggest event possibly is the Antique Car Show and Flea Market in October. Huge money maker for the area (try to find a hotel in 50 miles) and Hershey in general. Won't beleive the #### the group that runs it has to go thru (and pay for) to use the fields and stadium (all owned by Hershey Empire).... I belong to the car group and worked there for years.... OY!!!

HERCO when running multiple events has set the lots up in ways to benefit each event. For example, when TOB runs Atlantic Coast Championships, people go to their halloween thing in the park are parked further out so we get the parking by the stadium, and of course hockey/concerts etc are all parked over by the Giant Center. Now, the one issue is for band stuff, they do warmups outside the stadium in a part of the lot right by the stadium. for DCA, the space they use is A) not big enough and B) Way too close.

and yes, having been in the courtroom for the HERCO v Five Star Brass trial, I can tell you it did come out in court that the Big33 contract was almost always finalized AFTER the event. Most of the management from then is gone ( one landed at Rochester for a while LOL), but I can't imagine they're itching to have us and DCA is willing to trust them.

IMO, the mid-Atlantic region is best. Raleigh, NC has three great venues (I think, for the purpose of DCA, Wake Forest's football stadium would be the best), and it splits travel distance between north and south fairly well.

yeah, well that experiment showed they weren't close to ready yet.

That would be South Eastern Pennsylvania, but I don't know what city Jeff refers to.

the soccer stadium in Chester. natural turf, next to the casino which is next to downtown hell. Anything hotel wise you're either in DE, out by West Chester, or the Philly airport ($$$$$$$$).

As access is right off of 95 by the Commodore Barry Bridge, if something traffic wise happens on 95, gridlock can and does occur daily.

and given the potential for precipitation on Labor Day weekend, natural turf is not a good option.

well..one person's opinion...FWIW...I've done Scranton, Rochester and Annapolis..(and Allentown if you count performing)

I can do without Scranton..it was ok, but not great..

Rochester...love the stadium, hate the town..I have never had an easy time driving to or from the stadium...roads always closed off,,,detours.,..just not likin' it, and will not go back ...I've already planned to purchase the stream instead. Plus I've run out of enjoyable things do during the down time.

Annapolis...LOVED it...the town, the stadium, the people...nothing I didn't like about it..except the handicapped parking is most definitely NOT in the right place in reference to the stadium. I would go every year if Finals were there...My wife and I make it a mini vacation and we love it...

PPL Stadium in Chester, PA was a great venue for the YEA show in June. It's a professional soccer stadium, not more that 5 years old, with pleanty of parking. It's conveninet to PA & NJ interstates. (Just stay out of downtown Chester. It makes Rachaha look like Greenwich, CN)

I was gonna say....Chester PA isn't exactly the nicest of cities...Almost as bad as Wilmington.... *ducks and runs*
