MikeD
where I see the issue is what one corps in DCI owns....a band circuit that is trying to market itself as an alternative to BOA. and given the revenue that circuit generates for that corps, they won't be willing to give that up. If DCI decided to become part of MFA, so that in effect there would be two marching/music legs of that organization, that would not preclude the continued existence of USBands in any way. USBands serves primarily a different audience than BOA, and does a lot more at the local-show level, which it totally outside the scope of BOA. Very different philosophies and approaches,IMO. They could continue to co-exist just as they do today.
ScoutMello
Something we need to keep in mind from a logistical perspective: Where are potential new members coming from? BOA. They're coming from high school and college marching programs. We no longer have the depth in the activity that lends to internal progression. The concept of a 'feeder corps' is pretty much dead. The activity is no longer in a state where young people join up with their local corps to get their feet wet and then move to the 'big leagues' of DCI. They're going from their high school programs to the corps of their choice. So that being the case, it is practically inevitable for DCI to adjust to the experiences and expectations of their potential recruits.
