jjeffeory
Great stuff people. This thread should be the one with 40,000 hits. (Or maybe not) Really makes wonderful sense. It also renews a sense of excitement and optimism for the future. A question that came to my mind is where and how will the future performers get their training. It would seem that the current performance groups discussed required some drum corps training to enable the level of performance needed? I have some thoughts, but want to hear others ideas. I believe that the basic education is still going to be in DCI. It's still going to begin at the high school marching band level. DCI is like the college level. Then there are going to be elite groups that are all age and make some money. I still believe that there's going to be more integration with these other venus; the football field is going to be the main proving ground, but we're going to see all these instrumentation changes applied to the football field so that they can be vetted there first. Then the designs can move to all the other venues. I think it's going to frustrate people who love the football field shows first and foremost.
cowtown
I’m not sure I get the point of this thread other then some trying to cash in on Drum Corps…the end game is fewer spots, fewers corps…one-off shows that have no replay value and putting non-profit, educational status in jeopardy I never liked Brass Theatre or Blast, even turned down free tickets last few times it went through town. I know, on this board it’s blaspheming to not like certain pre-approved cultural acts. But yeah, I won't buy a ticket to something like that

More news of another corps doing non-traditional performance such as the ones I originally mentioned (If I can get the video to embed properly. EDIT: Nope here's the link): http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10100187672180746 The video above was for Spirit of Atlanta's performance at a Microsoft Convention. You can read the DCI article below and note SOA has been tapped for more performances: http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=2e27784e-c779-4916-9e53-b20ae9143246 ...and this isn't "DCI related", but it is MiM related news. Looks like MiM ( who is basically the G7 DCI corps) is going to be competing directly against BOA this fall: http://www.yea.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=22852&news_iv_ctrl=1402 http://cavaliers.org/blog/music-motion-announces-marching-music-series That's more current evidence of the change of where "the activity" is going. N.E. Brigand
Edit: I've moved my comments on MiM to the new thread you started about that subject specifically. Edited March 7, 2014 by N.E. Brigand
