Come see the Bluecoats in Newark, Ohio Aug 3

Recommended Posts

Hard to believe the 2016 season will be over in less than two weeks...

Certainly some great shows out there, but the Bluecoats "Down Side Up" has certainly generated a lot of buzz and currently has the corps from Canton ranked #1 after wins at the San Antonio and Atlanta regionals.

For you folks in Ohio you have a chance to see the show this Wednesday, August 3 at Newark High School's White Field located on the corner of 11th and Church Streets. The corps is holding an open rehearsal that night from 7:00-10:00 with a run of the show about 9:30. Please note this is a rehearsal so the corps will not be in their show uniforms.

Parking will be via the gate on 11th Street. The corps will have their souvenir stand open and the Newark Band Parents Club will be operating a concession stand. There is no admission fee, BUT we are asking those attending to make a donation that will be split with the corps and the NHS band.

We have already heard from 4 or 5 band directors that plan to bring their entire bands...the more the merrier. Would appreciate knowing in advance for any groups planning to come. You can email the NHS band director (Lee Auer) at lauer@laca.org

Also a reminder that the 'Coats home show is Monday, August 8, in Massillon. Tickets are going fast!

We anticipate a sellout.

Does Newark have a new director? Wasn't Zak Wilkins in charge there last year?

(Newark is one of just four Ohio marching bands that have qualified for OMEA's "state finals" since those were first conducted in 1980. I saw them last year at one of their first competitions and at their last, and was astonished how much they had improved. A small band, especially for their division, and the field coverage was very limited, but they pulled through with very precise execution.)

Yes. Lee Auer took over the program earlier this summer. I think he will do a great job and help get the numbers back to where they were a decade or so ago. He's been very helpful in making this possible for the 'Coats. Newark has a new turf field and are making some great changes to the stadium in a 2 year project.
