Any Corps Show Announcements/Info from This Weekend?

Recommended Posts

That's exactly it-they are not flat out denying any and all requests, they're just making sure that the music remains the music. Here is a link to the BOA website from a note written in 2010 that spells out what you are saying, and also the Bernstein Estate: http://www.musicforall.org/resources/copyright/leonard-bernstein

So anyone that simply blasts or makes statements saying they do not give permission, is completely wrong.

Yep. Biggest challenge might be getting the complete score in early enough for a review. FWIW I think Mass does not need to veer far from the original to work on the field.

Which is a very valid point. For those corps without turnover in design staff it would not be as big of an issue, but it certainly would be if the timeline to start designing gets pushed back.

Corpsband and tesmusic make very valid points, important points.

The already large challenge becomes even greater when the music is familiar: how does a corps present the music so it is as if the audience and judges are experiencing it for the very first time and enjoying it rather than comparing their experience to how so and so played it back in whatever year or BOA , USBands, UIL in Texas, ISSMA or whatever band circuit or college band you choose?

Re-hash of numbers traditional to a corps is a challenge already. BD can't just repeat winning pieces from year's past and expect them to win today. Yesterday isn't today.

All other corps have to mold the musical to the contemporary visual and general effect expectations which are usually far different from the source music presentations. Occasionally one can get away with a throwback (Troopers doing a color pre, sunburst, or rifle circle; Crown doing a crown) but never for a whole show. The audience and the judges demand something new or done in a new way.

Obliging the copyright holders,. audience, and adjudicators ain't easy.
