NFLPA wants Indy and others to change turf

Recommended Posts

There was some fancy name one of the corps had for that rubber stuff in fake turf.    I think BAC?  Cause we kept noticing their uniforms getting nasty black stains on them from the body motion on the field, which, I suppose is better than rug burns from doing it on old astroturf on concrete.

I mentioned back a while that there was a push by the NFLPA to go for natural surfaces again and if it came to pass, the 'lighter/less' prop move might come to pass...but also the 'no marching events' too.

Years ago when the Pats were in Sullivan Stadium/Schaefer Stadium, predecessor to Gillette, they had original Astro turf, which was spongy; in the summer.  We had a couple of rehearsals there so we were on it for hours.  Incredible aching legs for days afterwards. It was turf with a layer of foam on top of concrete. I know this because I saw it when it was going in.  Then Gillette had fake turf, then real grass, now the newer turf.  Real grass answered the injury issues with the turf but was a disaster when weather was bad and got all torn up and sod was cut and fit into what wasn’t totally wrecked.  The newer turf is good but you do get the black pellets and white unis get messy.

When Finals were in Arrowhead it was absurdly hot and grounded cymbals and brass were screaming hot and burned hands and lips because the turf was measured at 145 degrees.  I’m all for new turf so mm’s are safer, and props won’t get nixed.
