Blue Devils Upper Brass

I read BD has new trumpets. Since the switch to Bb they really haven't sounded powerful, rather weak and thin on high notes. I don't think it was the players either. Just wondering if someone can comment on the sound of the trumpet section and if the new horns bring back the powerful sound. Listen to BD 82 (OK-through 97 or so) to hear the powerful BD sop sound.

i thought they sounded pretty goo in 00, especially during Taxi Driver. But i would agree about the 01 hornline. These Downey designed horns havent sounded the greatest so far...id say the Cadets off-the-shelf Yamahas have been much better even.

To be perfectly honest, I have not enjoyed BD's upper brass sound since they made the switch to multi-key. The real problem is when they do a high-demand drill move. That's when the sops/trumpets practically disappear off the map and, when you do hear them, they sound out of tune, thin, and strident. The only time I've really liked the sound of the brass line is on the State of the Art II CD, but that's when they're standing still in an arc formation, with the microphones close to the horns, so they'd BETTER sound good then! :)

BD had that "powerful sop sound " long before '82 my friend.

I should have said since day 1 - my mistake. I just wanted a reference point and 82 BD was the very first drum corps show I heard. I look forward to your LA shows.
