Dvldawg411
As communicated at the open house held last weekend, the Five Time DCA World Champion Syracuse Brigadiers are pleased to announce the 2005 program, "'Round Midnight," based on the vocal interpretations of the group New York Voices. A full description of the program follows. The Corps is ready to hit the field in 2005 again under the direction of corps director and visual designer Rick Morey. Wayne Downey also returns to offer his masterful brass arrangements, as well as an original piece to open the show. Martin Hotte will again lead the percussion as caption head with Giff Howarth as the front ensemble arranger and Dave Glyde as the battery arranger. In addition, Billy Parent returns as the Color Guard Caption Head and the Brigs are pleased to welcome Pete Blake as the Brass Caption Head. The vast majority of the remaining 2004 staff will be returning, as well. For a complete listing of the 2005 staff, please go to Brigadiers Staff. The Syracuse Brigadiers will run a Battery (snare, tenor, bass drum) Audition Camp on Saturday/Sunday, December 11th/12th, at Central Square's Millard Hawk School, in Central Square, New York. The camp will begin at 1:00 PM on Saturday and will conclude at 3:00 PM on Sunday. In addition, the first brass camp will be January 15th & 16th, 2005, also at Millard Hawk. Directions and more information can be found on the Brigadiers' web site at Winter Camp info. Don't miss out on what is sure to be another fantastic year for the Brigs!!!! For more information on membership, please contact Dave Keck, Director of Recruiting, at dkbrigs27th@aol.com. And now, without further ado, "'Round Midnight": As night descends on the City, endless urban energy and emotion reveal the heart and soul of a place like nowhere else. The City uncovers the grit, the chic, the romance, and the pain that are part of the full range of options and opportunities explored by the Syracuse Brigadiers Drum and Bugle Corps in their 2005 program, “’Round Midnight”. The musical production is arranged by Wayne Downey (brass), Dave Glyde (battery) and Giff Howarth (front ensemble) and is primarily based on the interpretation of New York Voices, the contemporary vocal jazz group renowned for their surprising takes on the edgy and classic sophistication of NYC. The production opens with an original composition by Wayne Downey. It is a new work that expresses the power and excitement of the towers, the canyons and the streetscapes. The hip “Orange Colored Sky” reflects the optimism of new-found relationships and the possibilities the City offers when the workday ends. But it is Thelonius Monk’s smoky “’Round Midnight” that is the centerpiece of the program. Sometimes mournful and lonely, sometimes uplifting and positive, it suggests the turbulent emotions of a relationship, shaded with the variety of experiences the City offers as night deepens. In contrast, the “open-all-night” joy and delight of the City at play find themselves unmasked in “Baroque Samba.” This piece, by New York Voices arranger Darmon Meader, is filled with energy and hope as it parties toward the urban dawn and a fresh day. We hope that you will find the wild and wide possibilities of life in the City as intriguing as we do. Syracuse Brigadiers 2005 Be the "B"!!!! idontwan2know
This sounds like a fantastic show. I've been a big fan of New York Voices since I heard Crossmen do Baroque Samba. I'll be hoping to hear some snippets of "Wish I Was a Kellog's Cornflake" and/or "Traffic Jam" !
