I played tymps in 1972, '73, and '74 before moving to tenors in '75.^OO^ How did I miss this detail? I too played timp for 27th in 1973. No straps - we used aluminum harnesses with about 25 lbs of steel plates as counter weights in the back. We did marched with them at all practices - using a single leg in the front when we needed to "take a back break." I'd be 6'-6" if I hadn't played that drum !!!!!
