Jd83 Posted September 5, 2011 Share Posted September 5, 2011 Last weekend, alumni of the 1981 Louisiana Southernaires celebrated the 30th anniversary of our winning the DCI Class A Championship. This is our US Open group pic. And those of us who were able to make the reunion. One of us came from as far as Australia to attend. How the Southernaires formed and won Class in a four month period still amazes me. I wrote about it here. They didn't win drums in 82...Bridgemen did. Sam - the original DCI championship trophy was a Slingerland TDR-100 Snare drum - without the strainer. The big DCI trophy was passed around, while the snare drum was kept by the corps. But.....that photo shows a smaller DCI trophy which looks like a replica of the big one looks like it has a Ludwig logo on the front. So....not sure what that Slingerland drum signifies?
