A Talk with George Parks

George Parks marched with Buccaneers for from 1974 through 1987, serving 13 of those years as drum major. During that time, he won eight DCA drum major awards and his corps won the DCA Championship in 1979 and 1980. He has been the director of the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band for 29 years. He spoke about teaching drum majors and the drum corps activity at the BOA Symposium on July 1.

ya know, growing up due to corps rivalries locally, i wasn't a Parks fan.

with old age, and the chance to talk to him in 2000, i respect the #### out of the man.

if the Bucs are in the hunt at finals, i think it would be a huge hype for George to lead them on the field, mace in hand.

I think that would be incredible, especially since the last title they won, was with George at the helm.

oh...dad reminded me of a classic story.

Carlisle, 1982...my little brother was 6, and he liked George...odd given his roots :P

so he walks up to George, shakes his hand ( GP was GREAT with kids) then tells him Westshore had a guy who could throw a rifle higher than he could throw his mace.

George smiled and said he'd work on it. Scottie thanked him and walked away

:P
