I honestly believe someone from the 4-5-6 slots will catch Blue Devils by the end of the year, but not at San Antonio. This list was based off of a lot of things, including trends, performance order, and who would potentially benefit from which time slot they received. The most interesting thing about this list is probably slots 14-18. These five corps: Colts, Capital Regiment, Southwind, Mandarins, and Seattle Cascades will be an absolute dogfight up until Finals. In all reality, I can see Southwind and Capital Regiment eventually passing Colts by the time Allentown rolls around, as well as Mandarins going back and forth in between all 3. I *want* to like Mandarins and position them just a bit higher, however, I firmly believe the previous two shows and their excessive jumps into the 76 and 77 ranges will come crashing back down to reality here once they meet up with the rest of DCI. There is only so much you can read from the shows out West when you aren't competing against anyone else except Pacific Crest. Not to mention the spread between Pacific Crest and Mandarins the other night was only 0.5, and just 0.15 the night before, and that worries me A LOT as to how good Mandarins really are. Not to discredit Pacific Crest any, because I obviously haven't seen them yet (has anyone?). But judging from the trends that have happened with scoring like this in the past, I see both corps coming back down to reality here once Finals rolls around. ------------------------------------------- EDIT: To prove this case a bit further, please take a quick peek at the following recaps. Notice the MUSIC scores particularly (brass, percussion, music ensemble). Mandarins are getting torched pretty consistently every night by Pac Crest. http://dci.org/scores/recap.cfm?event_id=6...f6-d89478abc411 http://dci.org/scores/recap.cfm?event_id=7...a5-209bf3ad1f9a Honestly, those scores are down to the bottom 18-24 range right now, so I can only help but ask, how long will their visual continue to carry them? Pac was even catching up with them in GE at the last show. I would assume Pac Crest will clean clean clean over the next couple of weeks and be ready to catch up at least slightly in the visual department and maybe pass up Mandarins for the long haul. Just my two cents! :) Edited July 22, 2005 by IMcomguy
Matt_S
Matt, I'm pretty sure BK is performing the afternoon, while Boston gets the free pass to the night show. Maybe you just switched the names? Other than that, bump Boston up from 10 to 8, and I think you've got a pretty good finals list. I firmly believe both the 1st and 2nd place corps from the afternoon will be 8th and 9th, and then Boston barely behind them at 10th, despite their free pass. B) Should be fun nonetheless!
