When I was reading this, I thought I saw the word mullets instead of mallets. BUT, that brings up an interesting point. What do people think of those who have mullets now? "Wow, that guy's stuck in the past!!" So maaaayyyybbbbeeee it's just a biproduct of time moving forward that I think we should add woodwinds. I don't like mullets. HAHA. GmenBari78 Posted December 9, 2005 Share Posted December 9, 2005 Sorry, going back a few pages here in the argument--- I think the reason why HS band programs did not work in the summer was that they were attached to a school. If they were independent orgs like corps are, with similar motivation and financial base, they would work just as well. I speak from experience, I was in a H.S. band program that did 1 week tours to Minnesota in June and 4 week tours to the East Coast or California in July and/or August. We operated like a corps. But the band died after the director retired, because the school district was not the driving force, the band director and the parents were. I think for marching bands to succeed at the same level as corps, they have to become independent from the requirements and pressures of the school system.
