CrunchyTenor
GARRY... OMG! That's an awesome picture...and I am blown away by the size of the drums you and RobH and a few others actually carried back in the day. Hard to remember that that was actually COOL back then. What did those things sound like?! Geeeeeezzzz... and what did they weigh??? CRI-YI!! You got the whole "John Bonham" drum set thing going there hanging from your shoulders... Much lower in pitch, more resonant in character, and 65 pounds with the carrier. They were deeper than the contemporary Ludwigs so they had that power-tom sound. Think of Regiment's Power-tom quads from 81/82. Glad we had those carriers, though. Much easier to play without fighting straps. GGarrett
Actually, GGarrett, I lugged around a 15" snare drum, which wasn't half as bad as those carrying tymps or the "monster tripledrums" or even those huge bass drums carried back when! With straps, no less, not the harnesses carried today! My chiropractor thinks that's why my left sacro iliac goes out on a regular basis! AHH yes Rob-a-roo... after re-reading your post with the picture, you clearly state that you are the snare drummer just next to the guy (as you look at the photo)carrying the monster-toms. I stand corrected! You were there with that guy, anyway. Pretty cool! B)
