MikeD
i'm all for the pit as long as it's unplugged There were lots of folks before your time who were aghast at the idea of the pit...there was just no internet to allow them to kvetch amongst themselves. MikeD
So, if we arent happy, and we want to see a return to what we liked and lavishly spent thousands of dollars on, we're just to shut the #### up so you can have your happy place? So, in your world, if you don't like it, hey #### you, go away right? wow, that's customer service at it's best Because your 'we' is a tiny insignificant portion of the audience. Those having their 'happy place' includes customers from every generation of drum corps...that's good customer service.
MikeD
When I mentioned this to an old friend of mine, a dyed in the wool drum corps purist from the old school, his reaction was..........!@#$%^&*()_+!! Obviously this is not too popular with the older, tradational drum corps fans. Scuse me...but I started marching in 1964 and I think it's a great idea. torn8o
Agree on that one...Bucs and Bush both had VERY modern shows last season...as did the Sunrisers. They did not quite have the horses numerically to pull it off, but it was a VERY modern show in design...and fun to watch.Mike Well what do you know? MikeD and torn8o agree on something. LOL (as if we never have...though the disagreement on woodwinds would almost make it appear that way). Anyway. Haven't seen the Sunrisers yet. They are on my "to do list" of DCA corps to research. What was their show? You know what is funny about the Bucs? They did Medea. A piece that 10 years ago you would never think would be done by a DCA corps. Shows you just how much even THAT activity is evolving. The nice part for those that are not as big on those types of pieces though is that the very next second you have someone like the Cabs or the Renegades blowing your face off with "higher faster louder". It's nice to have a little bit of everything. AAAAAAANYWAY!!!!!! Let's get back on topic. Have the Cadets narrowed down any leads yet in their search for this new staff member? Just curious. Good luck to them on that. I've never been opposed to amplification so I'm more than happy to wish them my best on finding someone. torn8o
Because your 'we' is a tiny insignificant portion of the audience. Now Mike, that isn't a very nice thing to say. Everyone from within the activity whether fan, alumni, director or member is "significant" in their opinions and visions for the drum corps activity. You have even said so yourself. ScribeToo
That's what you have been brainwashed into thinking. <snip> These are the misconceptions about DCA that SOMEHOW need to be removed. Well if you ask me, telling someone who doesn't have any interest in DCA (regardless of how good the corps and performances may be) that they've been brainwashed is a great way to start erasing those misconceptions. ^OO^ Just sayin'... Lancerlady
Why would they use the brass staff for vocal training? There are techs these days for just about everything...snare, bass, tenor, cymbal, pit, etc....why is it cheating to use a voice specialist to teach voice? There you go with that selective reading... :P I never said it was cheating I asked the question for a discussion if some would consider it cheating..also..go back and read what Stef said, she made a brilliant point...I think..about why they would use brass staff for vocal training...there really shouldn't be a need for anybody to have any vocal training if you ask me, ...you can still use the same staff for brass for the vocal part. They are trained in both areas... If one thing Crown did brilliant in 04...it was that. They have staff that are qualified to do both aspects without going out and hiring some vocal coach. Such an unnecessary expense imo. Edited February 22, 2006 by Lancerlady
Lancerlady
Steph,Why not Email DCI and see if they can/will tell you the answer to your good question....and then make sure you tell the rest of us! This line is so old... :P There are enough people from DCI who post on here who could just as easily post the reason as it is for me to email them and ask them. :P

Occasionally directors post here, but nobody from the office does. And I gotta agree with Mike on this.. most folks from DCI are hesitant to get drawn into conversations here because it too easily turns into a witch hunt.. and who needs that? I thought your question was a good one too.. and thought you should pose it directly to the DCI board.. why not send it off to them? I've found historically, they're more willing to answer a direct question privately than be drawn into a discussion here.. Stef
