CornoBehnke
What did he think of the drum corps playing his music in the 80s?

acecannon
he was 87 in 87. he was like "yeah, whatever." when your work has been played by the best musicians on the planet - a marching band ain't gonna twist your panties too much. although i'm sure he was a bit intrigued by the obscure 3rd Symphony being picked in 88. zachariaswmb
Hmmm, his 3rd is obscure? I think a lot of people have heard of Fanfare for the Common Man.
jfmello
Hmmm, his 3rd is obscure? I think a lot of people have heard of Fanfare for the Common Man. True; but the Fanfare was written four years before the 3rd and was incorporated into the first part of the fourth movement 'after the fact', so to speak. Fanfare for the Common Man was already pretty well-known by then as a stand-alone piece. Edited April 25, 2006 by jfmello
BMBob
As a whole, I would say that symphony is a pretty "unknown" piece of music. (comparatively, of course) Edited April 26, 2006 by BMBob
GGarrett
What did he think of the drum corps playing his music in the 80s? I know you meant "Copeland" ... right? Cause Copland would have been unimpressed. OK OK... just keedn... I'm a wiener. Mister Copeland, I believe, said: "Well, I like SCV's version the best..." OK... I made that up. But it's possible he said that. Maybe.

MikeD
No, I think he was talking about Aaron Copland, the composer... Actually, he was talking about Irv Copland the haberdasher from Brooklyn. :P
