Singing in Drum Corps

Recommended Posts

In a couple of days many of you are going to witness one of the most famous moments of drum corps singing:

The 1984 Garfield Cadets!

Mind you, this was UNPLUGGED, and not drum speak.

How many more corps can we come up with that use voice in their shows?

I'll start with unplugged drumcorps singing:

Garfield 1984

Blue Devils 1984

Cavaliers 1990

Velvet Knight 1992

There were more in the 80's, but I can seem to remember. Freelancers 82?

Also, do you like it when a drum corps sings?

If my memory serves me, I seem to remember Garfield singing "Amen" at the end of their show in '78 or '79. I also seem to remember a photo of the corps at DCI prelims, holding their hands over their mouths, while the Drum Major pointed to a sign that read: "Sorry, no verbal Amen due to one point penalty"

Blue Devils did not sing in 84....we were GOING to sing a bar or 2 that mimicked the mini-gongs in the pit in Karn Evil 9, but it never made it to the field...BD DID sing that same part in 85...that might be what you're thinking.

1984 was the first year on field vocals of ANY kind were allowed to the corps in general. Previously, it was restricted to DMs and other field commanders.

Best singing is still 85 Freelancers...

Thanks! That's what I was thinking of.
